We were next to Hoosier Crawdaddy (very nice people), but nothing wore off on us. We came in 22 overall...

Big congrats to Rick! WTG! Great showing!

What I learned this weekend: don't do ribs with a cracked platesetter (I had no choice by then, unfortunately). And don't ever do a comp when your teammate is trying to cater 2 events that same day. We tanked because our minds were on the wrong things. Lots of inconsistent judging, but that's how the game is played.

Hoosier Crawdaddy is on a roll! Really nice people too.

FYI Ricks boat eggs are da bomb! Thanks Rick and congrats on the Top Ten!

As for our chicken(18th), it was hands down some of the best we have ever turned in. I hope your Grand Daughter is OK!

Congrats to all who got a call.

i still can't believe it! they liked my food!

it took me three comps to realize you are supposed to sauce pork and brisket. :icon_blush:

fantastic job by the American Legion Post 598, and the organizers Jim and Jimmy, and the kcbs reps phil and kathy despite the rain during the turn-ins saturday morning (which probably helped me score better)

during the turn-ins i said, "why do i do this!". then Col Spacy, the Base Commander at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base called my name three times and i said, "now i can't quit!"

thanks guys. i'm so tired i can barely walk. time for a nap. :icon_sleepy

Great venue, especially the indoor, dry, air-conditioned judging area :) Seriously, what a beautiful area!

It was really cool putting faces to some of the names here & talking to yall. Congrats to all, and especially Hoosier Crawdaddy on the 2nd GC in a row! Will they make it a 3-peat?

Hey Walt, as Rob mentioned I had the Jambo. I was cooking hot and fast. Temps averaged about 325. Didn't put the meat on till 3 am. Got a little more sleep that way. Thanks again for the class on fire management in Michigan last April. I think I've got it now. Just need to find some bigger briskets to cook with.

Congratulations to both you and Theresa on another GC!. Great job Guys!

We would have taken (18th) and ran. Dale I think they just don't like the way we microwave our chicken!

I figure that we didnt brine our chicken in the pickle juice long enough. Maybe we should have used sweet instead of just bread & butter.

Dale, Rob, and Sid, I'd of trade any of you guys six of my chicken thighs for six slices of your brisket.

See you all in Madison!

Dale P

MMMM brisket was soooooooo good this time too. Its hard to believe that something so simple as ragu, would change the flavor so much.

Yep Roger, those boat eggs hit the spot. Rick says they are easy to make, but anytime you cook for that many people, you know he worked hard. I could have ate 5 plates. Breakfast is my favorite meal and its even better cooked outside. JMHO

I did hear about a joke causing 2 guys to have stress related heart attacks. You would think 2 guys who are that buff, would be able to handle situations like that.

maybe it was this that gave them heart attacks. i can't believe you guys didn't eat all of this. it's a good thing i didn't make two pans.

Joke? What joke? There better not have been a joke. Especially at the cook's meeting. That is a solemn time!!! Only serious matters should be brought forth!! Let me know who the culprit was if it in fact did happen! Geez, is nothing sacred anymore?

Dale P
07-16-2009, 06:19 AM
Accent? I thought that was a flavor enhancer.

Rob, how close is Cleveland to Canada? Pretty close eh? Come cook Madison and i promise not to feed Bones anymore sliders. hahaha! Poor dog must have eaten too much yard meat but he was well behaved and you 2 are welcome beside us anytime. OK you can bring that good looking girlfriend too.

I went over to the British team and tried to talk with them. I did not understand one word they said, and I know they didnt understand us, but we do know that they were friendly and that is all that really mattered. I thought the British spoke english, boy was I wrong.

Saturday night was a blast! I havent had that much fun in a long time.

you 2 are welcome beside us anytime then I guess you will have to hit Nelsonville this year.....I may be judging in Madison, but, not cooking at a contest again until Mesquite, NV......but, may have to head down that way the week before too.....since Nicole has to see clients down there anyway.......but, it is your turn to travel some....10,000 in prize money......come on, you know ya wanna....and, southern Ohio in the Fall, great weather, and scenery!!
