What comps are included for this season so far? It's cool that they do this.

Unlike the KCBS you do not have to be a member of NEBS to be a part of the TOY although I do recommend becoming a member

So if a NEBS team comes to the Kansas City area and scores well in a contest here, that doesn't count? If so, then I guess it's the contests that determine points and not the teams competing in them, correct?

No that wouldnt count. Its only contests that are NEBS sanctioned... ie, on the NEBS website.

Oh OK... I guess I didn't realize that NEBS sanctions events as well.

Jeff, Iowa BBQ society does it similarly (top 4 scores). While the events are KCBS sanctioned, only scores from comps within the state of Iowa count for the IBS rankings. And you have to be an IBS member. It's fun and a good excuse for a banquet and drink Templeton while their's a lot of snow on the ground.

Good excuse to drink Templeton? Hell, I think I've proven you don't NEED an excuse for that.... just a window of two hours from about 11:30 AM til 1:30 PM on any given Saturday.

just wanted to clarify for people ...

the NEBS ToY is determined by taking the 5 best scores (no extra points for # of teams or placing high or anything like that) from competitions that have been 'sanctioned' by New England BBQ Society. That means that the NEBS BoD has approved the cook's packets from those competitions (both grilling AND BBQ) and has included them in the ToY standings.

There are AWESOME trophies which are awarded on Harpoon Sunday (after the last event of the NEBS season); in Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket categories, and then Overall NEBS Team of the Year as well.
The grilling overall scores are the only ones that actually count for ToY, the individual categories for grilling do not get their own awards...

There is also a NEBS Rookie Team Of The Year award... pretty cool.

I believe you DO have to be a NEBS member to actually WIN a ToY award, but the standings show every team, NEBS members or not, that has cooked in those New England events over the past year.

info-mercial over... :>

bump ...

this doesnt look like it did last time...

http://www.jamhart.com/bbq/iQue.html

and I bet it won't look the same after next weekend either...
or the weekend after that...
but there's hope (shining brightly) for many teams until Harpoon Sunday...

makes me kinda wish I was a judge in New England for the next 5 weeks  just imagine the food thats gonna get turned in...

How come Q Haven has points for 5 contests in the overall, but only three for categories?

lunchlady
06-23-2009, 12:29 AM
ToY points are earned for the overall category from a BBQ OR a grilling contest, but the only individual category trophies (so far) are awarded for chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.
Max musta cooked a coupla great grilling contests - So his overall scores for those counted.
