I quit following people on twitter. Cotton picking notices kept my blackberry going. I like it, just not the constant notices.

Just change your user settings. I was being killed with messages but now only know whats going on if I'm logged in.

I tweet once every few months whether I need to or not. Since I'm not pimping or reporting anything, I don't see the point.

Yeah, I go in cycles too. I don't own or sell anything either so it's just the fun of posting thoughts I don't want on my blog that I love.

Agreed. It is my opinion that generally noone cares that I am currently eating a boring lunch, or that I am happy I am regular today. I am all ffor the newest and greatest technological thing, but for Twitter, I don't yet see the point. If someone can please enlighten me I would appreciate it.

On the other hand I do have a twitter account. It is musicmanryan if anyone wants to follow me.:icon_blush:

I use it alot for clients looking to extend their brand reach or for anyone who is an authority on a particular subject, etc. If done properly it can be much more than "what I had for lunch". Think of it as fast blogging. You post a point of view on something, people respond and there's a dialog. Like minded folks follow each other and exchange opinions on current news, recipe ideas, whatever. But without the "social" back and forth part of it, there's really no point being on it.

To me it seems like a site for people with way too much time on their hands. Kinda like me!

I use Twitter as a way of publicly interacting with the visitors of our website in real time. I use a program called TweetDeck that monitors my Twitter account, that way I don't have to check the website all the time. If somebody says something to me, then it pops up a notification just like an instant messenger service. My follower list is built around the barbecue community, so it's fun to go in and see what people are cooking.

I guess I just don't need it... I prefer just picking up the phone and talking to people....

Heck, I'm just trying to figure out Facebook...
But Scottie, who wants to see your face?????:mrgreen:

Don't think of it as talking to one person - think of it as a press release tool.

If I was actively trying to promote goods or service - say catering, then I would tweet regularly. Even though I don't post hardly anything, I have the various different local media following me. (thinking about posting bogus stuff just to see if they respond)

It is a very useful tool for promotions because many media channels use twitter as a way to find interesting features to report.

Now the people that are tweeting just because they have a keyboard - no idea of the fascination.

Twitter is like a 24 hour global cocktail party. It's a passive, real-time communication tool. You don't need to go back and read historical tweets, just tune into the live stream from time to time to see what's going on. I think it's so simple that many people try and overthink it.

I get a lot of valuable information from the Twitterverse. There are plenty of tools available to hook you up with like minded individuals. And using Tweetdeck is a must.

This is the best way to utilize Twitter. Tweetdeck is a great tool.

True. I've gotten some media stuff, plus meeting really cool people like Carrie Oliver who then joined here, other food bloggers, AND I think I just found a way to make a ton of money doing nothing!!!
