I think I'll go, assuming I have enough for gas...

Ford, my daughter can run boxes for you, as she usually does it for me if my sister isn't here. And hopefully my sister shows up...

Sounds great! We're really looking forward to it and it sounds like Jim (Addington) has done a great job in getting a nice sized contest. Should be 36-40 teams, maybe.

Anyone given any thought to a pot luck this year? We missed last years 'cause we were wasting our time on the chile contest:mad:

Scottie
05-04-2009, 02:24 PM
Dann, I had talked with the organizer. I think he was planning on the PC chili going until 9:00?

I for one am not sure if I can wait that long to enjoy the dish that Phillip and Kathy will be bringing up from Lynchburg... It will be burning a hole in my shigging cup...

Just got a letter from the comp.(The Lions Club) Apparently, they are strictly enforcing the 20x20 site size. How is this going to work with those in trailers and motor homes?

I'm pretty sure we can fit all our stuff in a 20x20, but we'll likely need to park the truck offsite.

Shouldn't they have mentioned this on the application, like say...Arthur?
(From Arthur's site "We will provide cooking space, an adjacent parking space, and electricity and water within a reasonable distance to each site, for each team, General Arrival/setup 7am-10pm Friday Oct 10. We are planning for one main team vehicle, one main (trailer sized) cooker, and a pop-up prep tent per team")

I really like having a comp in our backyard, and don't mean to complain to loudly, it just seems like they could have said something prior to 4 days before the event:icon_sad

Just sayin'

On the other hand, they really don't make it clear at what point the villages contribution was withdrawn, so maybe they didn't know when they put out the applications. Whatever, looking forward to 3 days from now! I'm sure in the end it will be a great event! :-D

actually it did say on the app that 20x20 will be strictly enforced...as quoted below..

NOTE: We will be strictly enforcing site sizes. If you have a 21’ or larger rig, you must purchase an additional site (additional site space may be split between 2 competitors. You are solely responsible for setting this up and notifying the BBQ committee with your application). Space is limited to the first 60 teams only.

Scottie
05-19-2009, 09:30 AM
Dann, they have announced it... I've been on them since the beginning to enforce it. When it was the old set-up going down the street, teams that only paid for a 20' spot were easily taking 40', so they wouldn't have to unhook their trailers. I applaud them for finally going to strickly enforce it. I have had to pay for an extra space since this contests inception... So don't think that us teams in our large rigs don't pay... And I believe you know how much I have helped to get this contest off the ground....

If you didn't pay, I would suggest bringing a check book or cash...

The weather looks like it's going to be glorious. See everyone this weekend. PM me if you need anything or need directions... The letter that was sent out was right on for directions. Don't forget... We have a White Castle, so if anyone wants to go and get some of their pulled pork sandwiches!!!!

PARTY AT THE SMOSCO MOHO!!!!

Woo Hooo!!!!!!
you can always count on Walt for some Jack and a good cigar.

See everybody early Saturday. And I paid for 2 spots when I sent in the app. 20x40 will hold the trailer with room to spare but not sure the truck will fit. Oh well, I'm sure they will have handicapped competitor parking close.

Have to ask Carol if we got the info packet today.

Scottie
05-19-2009, 04:42 PM
The info packet was basically making sure people knew about them enforcing the space sizes... And directions...

For you, just take 294, to Ogden West (about 3 miles) to Blackhawk north to park... Blackhawk is a street light.

Ron_L
05-19-2009, 06:28 PM

My trailer is 7'x14' which is 18' long, but I take up 25' with the ramp door down. I only need the door down to unload/load my smoker. Will I need to pay for an extra spot?

Ron_L
05-20-2009, 08:56 AM
Probably not but only the organizer can answer that for sure. I think they are worried about fitting everyone in, so if you take up more space while unloading that shouldn't be a problem. I think y trailer is a little over 20 feet with the ramp down as well.

Scottie

Give me $25 and I will make sure that you are taken care of. Or better yet, just bring me a bottle of Jack. I'll make sure they look the other way... Don't look at it as a favor, just think of it as it's the least I can do.... I mean, it is my home contest and all....
