Hello all...

I just thought that I would introduce myself. I am a novice in every sense of the word and have found this forum to be very helpful in assisting me learn the craft :-D

So far, my experience has been a great one... I can't believe I waited this long to try this. Although my wife has already started giving me a hard time about how much time I spend researching, experimenting, cooking... you know all the fun stuff

Currently, the tool of my trade is the Brinkman Vertical Square Cooker

... now I know some of you are probably laughing uncontrollably right now... and IMO rightfully so! Research is already underway for a replacement, as this was a gift, and has also introduced me to this fine pasttime I am not ashamed to admit to using it. So far, my experiments have included 4 boston butts, a couple of beer butt chickens and my Thanksgiving Day turkey, which was only my second attempt ever at smoking and turned out awesome (I'll have to admit that I was more than a little nervous about messing up and ruining the entire meal with the whole family)!

Anyway, like I said, I just wanted to pop in and say "Hi". I look forward to meeting you all!

See you in the forums!

I don't think you'll take any heat for that cooker. In fact, didn't someone here bolt a side fire box onto one of those and turn it into an offset?
Welcome to the best clubhouse on the web!

Welcome aboard! Have no shame. ALL of us started with something we later wished was better. Trust me. Nobody that is into this and posting here for a long time has only had their one cooker.

OK, go ahead and chime in. There's always SOMEONE! There are no absolutes in this world, so I'm srue there is SOMEONE that is so happy with their first and only cooker...that's jsut the way of the world.

Welcome to our version of OCD (Outdoor Cooking Disorder)! I'm pretty sure most of us here have cooked on things we don't want to admit to at some point in our lives...
