I like that set up. Iowa BBQ Society does it very similar. Last year we only did 3 comps in IA, this year we're doing 4 for sure.

They have the awards at a banquet during the winter - nice excuse to get together during the cold.

Credit needs to be given to Brian Wemett of Good Smoke BBQ. This was his idea. All members of the Committee were involved in fine tuning. Its very exciting to be a part of the growth of BBQ in our home state of NY.

That's pretty awesome! Is Sayville the final score then results are tallied or am I the leader right now? Doesn't matter either way since I can't pull off more then one of those contests this year. In a down economy, every mile counts and upstate New York is something like 4-6 hours drive.

Sayville is the final contest of the year (7/7). In 2010, the cycle starts all over again.

...upstate New York is something like 4-6 hours drive.

upstate is 4-6, western NY is more like 8-10 hours for us ... !
Those contests are some of the best there are, IMHO, and the friends we have out there make the trip well worth every minute!

See you all this summer!

I'll take 8 hours on Mass Pike/rte 90 any day over driving down south and having to deal with driving around NYC, jersey turnpike etc...

Yup, me too. Its easy driving on I-90. Nice, mindless miles melting away at 74 miles per hour.

Very interesting concept. Good luck to all who do it. Unfortunately I will not be doing any of the NY contests this year. I hope they bring this back next year

Everyone on the Committee is on board to make this a perpetual award. We're all pretty excited about it.

If you can't come out this year, we'd love to have you next year. You are, afterall, the Connecticut State Champion. You're A list baby!

We understand and acknowledge your Long Island/5 Borough Centrist View.... There's a lot to see in "Upstate" and "Western New York" besides snowmobile trails and snow! LOL! Come see the rest of I Love New York State!

I don't think it has anything to do with that. He's skipping the two Long Island contests as well.

Sled is too big time for us lowly New Yawkers.Thats half the reason  The other half being time, money and health. Next year I will have plenty of time off(new job once i finally get working i get 38.5 days off a year) Hopefully I can stay injury free in 2010.I am 3-3 the last 3 years
