OOOOOOOO! you said the D.P. words! You're in trouuuuble ! :icon_frow

Major Woody's Smokin Dead Meat Competition BBQ Team will be present.

We have already paid the additional $300 for the California Personal Consumption Permit (Thanks, Thom!) so that we may be allowed to enjoy one (1) adult beverage shortly after final turn in. Woooo Hoooo! Break out the Wine Coolers!

BTW, I hope we are located in the "quiet" section. We do not want to be kept up all night by those zany hard core CBBQA party animals. Try to keep it down a little this time Harry...... :icon_cool

I see that the judges get the passes at the Indian Wells site, where do judges park? Genral parking? Is there a fee? Is there a map anywhare, can I drop my 83 year old Mother judge off any closer to the judges tent, or do I need to purchase a defibrillator and oxygen now?

ThomEmery
04-17-2009, 09:44 PM
That wasnt you at SC 2008?
If you asked without.........................
I knew when I signed her up she would need a lil help
Planning on a golf cart ride for her
You can walk from the free parking

Bentley
04-18-2009, 12:08 AM
Thats very nice of you to offer.

I parked with the teams last year so I was not familier with where the judges parked. I think the lot I parked in was right off Monroe, you walked right up to the back of where the teams were. I was hoping to be able to drop Kristin and Mom off there, but was not sure if just having there passes would get them in, then it would only be about a 200 yard walk to the judges tent for them, alas I will have quite a walk...so I am told by some of last years judges!

NotleyQue
04-18-2009, 02:21 AM
Thom where does the extra parking for teams with more than 1 car.

Bigmista
04-18-2009, 03:44 AM
Probably general parking.

ThomEmery
04-18-2009, 05:31 AM
General Parking We have less parking space and more teams this year
There is a home owner across the street from our contest getting $20.00 a day
to park on his 2 acre lot

Do you guys have mosquitoes? They like me for some reason. I think they like Jack.

Alexa RnQ

No, there are no mosquitoes there. You're clear to drink lots of mosquito attractant.

No mosquitos to attract, but you probably will attract some Notley Ques, SmokePeddlers, maybe a Rusty Barrel. Those are far worse than pesky skeeters cause we can drink our weight in Jack.

Notley Que BBQ will once again donate 100% of all its Peoples Choice sales to CancerSucksChicago in Monica Benidicts name.***

Brian Z (CountryHB), Myself (NotleyQue) and our assistant Mike Brown challenge any other Brethern team cooking Stagecoach this weekend to do the same.

The glove has been thrown. Is your team man enough or woman enough to accept that challenge.

***This is seperate from any donation the CBBQA is making, our donation has nothing to do with whatever the CBBQA is doing, and no association should be assumed***

Ever, ever, ever. You can't even say stripper pole over there without getting panties in a wad.

In all seriousness, this is a great idea Gary presented and it just makes sense. We challenge all to step up to the plate and join us in supporting a great cause in the name of a wonderful woman.

What a great weekend. Two days of competition. Two days of great music. Three days of great friends.

If you have not done this, please let Thom know how much you appreciated his efforts. The man was whipped after 72 hrs of non stop service to the all of the teams. Another incredible event.

New: CBBQA accepted a challege to raise money in memory of Monica Benedict. Otis and the Bird. RMBBQA had raised 1,500.00 in memory of Monica and donated it Cancersuckschicago.com, in March.

On Saturday, CBBQA presented a check to Scottie in the amount of $750.00. A challege was made. Cooks, Judges and friends rallied and at the end of the weekend raised more than $2,300 to honor Monica.

I guess I could talk about the competition, but this is what it truly is about!

I loved seeing so many friends. Hope to see everyone again soon.

1st Best Team Show, 2nd People's Choice.

I think we might have had more fun than anyone playing "Pin the Nipple on the Pig".

IBCA has their results up: http://www.ibcabbq.org/results2009/re090425indio.html

OMG, I still feel like I've been hit over the head with a hammer. The double turn-in schedule was BRUTAL -- at one point we had three turn-ins for two organizations within a 30-minute window. A number of teams missed one or more turn-ins, and it's crushing to work so hard and not have your food get to shine in front of the judges. The wind didn't help -- we only had one hand each to do things, the other one was always occupied trying to keep something from blowing away! The wind took a pan of food across the table (lucky save). I didn't have the lucky save for a parsley box, though -- it flipped right over and completely blew apart. I nearly cried. There's nothing you can do but slam together another one while you're supposed to be doing something else, and just not think about how it's not as lovely as the first one while you're scrambling to catch up.

What really stood out was the opportunity for our little 'hood to go up against the national names that came out to support this event. Mike and Debbie Davis of Lotta Bull, Scottie Johnson of cancersuckschicago.com, and Ronnie Wade of Blazen BBQ all made the long trip to give us some "real-world" talent to compete with. They're the benchmarks that we look at to gauge our performance, and we so much appreciated the chance to be on the same field.

We're still too trashed to be able to think straight, but the one thing rolling around in our heads is: Now we've got five qualifying events for the Jack. Where are we going to scrape up two more???!!!

That wind was nasty on Saturday for turn-ins... I had one of my KCBS boxes flip and had to rush it together... As I didn't have an extra hand to hold it... but that's what makes it a challenge...

BTW very nice pictures too! I just love palm trees...

So did anyone record the IBCA results beyond 10th place?

They had a sheet floating around. I guess for the TOY of the year race... But there were still a few unclaimed tickets for the top 20...

I think the CBBQA ToY goes out to half the field +1, so if there were 59 entries they are going to need the results out to 30th place...This should get intresting!

Thom,
Thank you for the incredible job you did to put CBBQA on the national map with Stagecoach. This is one premier contest. To give IBCA and KCBS the opportunity to share in this event is great, there are not words enough to extend our thanks.

Again congratulations for all you have done for BBQ competition.

Looks like I need to try to get this one on my schedule for next year. Scottie is trying to cook in every state and I'm trying to judge or table captain. I've almost got the east coast and new england covered.

Thanks to Merl (and your lovely wife), Thom, Lynn, Kelly and Kathlyn, and everyone else for making this happen.

Scottie, was really looking forward to meeting you and thank you for all you do. But timing was not good, you were not around your site the couple of times I came by. But it was an honor to shake your hand on stage on Saturday, when Larry presented the check.

And thanks Merl for putting out that challenge at Sunday awards. Great to see everyone come together like that, glad I had my shades on when Jay and Scottie came up on stage, got a little emotional.

I am still recouping, that was crazy. Between 3 contests, 3 turn-ins over thirty minutes period and the Heath Inspector showing up right then, cooking for People's Choice, and trying to hold on to everything that was not permenately attached, it was still a great time. Glad to see all my friends again and meet so many new ones. Dean Olsen and his group were great neighbors.
Congrats to R & Q (you guys are unbelievable), Spokepranos (big contest for first RGC), Harry Soo , and everyone who took walks.
Heck, congrats to everyone for just making turn-ins.
Hope to see you all in a couple of weeks.

Hats off to Tropical Heat for a stellar performance on Sunday: 6th Place Chicken, 3rd Place Ribs and 6th Place Overall in that 50 team field. Great cooking, guys!

Congrats to NotleyQue for their front cover shot, and the mascot from Smokin' Yankees. BigMista and I got in one shot, and so did our NipplePig game. There's many other teams featured, but I'm not sure if they're Brethren teams or not.
