Congrats Julie..

Surprisingly though with the new application format, the team list looks quite similar to the past few years.

Congrats, Julie! To my surprise, we got picked too. I think it helped that I promised the selection committee that we would be bringing an exceptionally charming, witty and good-looking team, but now the rest of the team says I can't come without breaking the promise.

Does anyone know what the grilling entries will be for the Summer Sizzler?

Almost soiled me britches...they got The Bastey Boys listed under "T"

I was scanning the B's up and down in disbelief , but it's all good!

Lobstiz ya say, Steph?

It's prolly peak-season price-wise, but we can prolly make it happen. Got a place right near me, usually has good prices.

I agree the process is fair as it's their contest & criteria.. I also agree that there a bunch of new teams. I was just expecting to a more substantial shift to a predominant list of well known/traveled/high ranking teams (not to take away from these 14 new teams or any returning teams) as that seemed to be part of what Harpoon wanted in addition to the need to vend aspect.

I wonder how many teams who competed last year and re-applied this year were rejected ?

The Summer Sizzler is a NEBS event where the categories change from year to year. Last year, the categories were lamb, fish, beef steak, and chef's choice featuring a Harpoon Beer.

The rules for garnish have typically been standard KCBS for all categories, except chef's choice which is open. I am generalizing of course, as there are specific rules and aspects that differ from the KCBS contest the day before, but that about sums it up.

In short, its a heluva lotta fun. And after the KCBS from the day before, I am always amazed how quickly you loose track of time. It goes super quick.

I sent an announcement to my team that we were accepted, and got HAMMERED about what the Summer Sizzler categories are for this year. Everyone is excited, and wants to start trying recipes and practicing.

That surpises me. Part of what I thought made the Summer Sizzler so special, was that it gets switched up every year.

I would guess we'll be getting an email soon requesting the official entry form and fee, as well as an outline of the event. We'll have to sit tight and see.
