I forgot.. you're a bigtime NEBS State Rep for NY now...

I'm just a pitbitch extraordinare these days

Not sure if I'll be around yet.. If things go well on a potential sale, there is a chance I will be at the Waldorf Eggfest in MD. Hoping I may have 1-2 more BGE's coming back with me.

Everything looks very good for the egg. I'll make another announcement when it's official.

Both parties have agreed on principal.

I hope there is a lot of participation. It's a great little event for a good cause in a great town.

If I wasn't allergic to oysters I would love to judge it myself.

Hello,

I mentioned in an earlier post that I would confirm when I heard that the BGE is a sure thing.

I just received that email.

There will be a BGE as part of the prize pool for the 2009 Smoke and Steam Grilling Contest.

This is a great little event. Inexpensive, great location, one day, friendly people, good cause, entry fee is tax deductible. What more could you want?

Sign up today!

It would be great to see you all but there is no need to show up boys & girls... the BGE will be coming home with me. Oysters were my weakness having never cooked or eaten one but I've just perfected a batch of grilled oysters topped with a spicy pineapple/mango/ginger salsa served on a bed of kosher salt and whole mixed colored peppercorns.

or maybe not

EricLast year a breakfast was provided for the teams, not gonna happen this year?

motoeric
03-01-2009, 01:38 PM
It most likely will, but I think it was juice, coffee, rolls and donuts. I was thinking breakfast burritos or something along those lines.

Another option (if the weather is nice): maybe we could have a dinner down by the water.

Sorry Clint.. Tempting but I'll be at Waldorf Eggfest in MD picking up my XL.

I agree, it was a well run event. Suprised there are only four teams entered so far..Maybe teams are keeping their $ to apply to the BBQ contests.

Oyster is Open Garnish correct? Protein in the sauce would be legal.

Bayside Buttheads (Darren Lora)
Ma's Que Crew (Brian Collins)
Transformer BBQ (Brendan)

revised rules

Speaking of rules though . . .

USE WOOD! Wood fires only when cooking. Propane may be used to start fires only.

Does that mean no charcoal?

Or is charcoal considered wood?

It says "Open standard garnish, herbs and veggies only". I emailed Ben and he thought meat, dairy and seafood would be accepted but those aren't "herbs and veggies only".

Did Sled find someone to compete with him? What about all those other teams from Grillin On The Bay? Would love to have a few more.

maybe I could stuff them with salmon<G> Seriously, after my two go arounds this spring I am not taking ANY chances with garnish at these grilling contests. Remember to look at NEBS rules also for this contest.

IIRC, last year meat and/or seafood in the stuffing or sauce was out. I seem to remember that we had a lot of variations on Oysters Rockefeller for that reason. I remember thinking I wanted to do Bienville, and not being able to. Unless I was just misinformed.

For my next contest, I'm doing salmon, stuffed with salmon, on a bed of salmon, with salmon sauce. To hell with trying anything different.

The rules are supposed to read "NEBS Open Garnish." Open and standard are two completely different things under NEBS grilling rules.

Dear Teams, Sponsors, and NEBS,

It is with sadness that I must announce to you the cancellation of Smoke N' Steam for May 2.

On April 5, I sustained a leg injury while at my job which will keep me out of work from four to eight weeks. I cannot perform all the tasks necessary which would guarantee you a first class event. In light of this, it is necessary to cancel the event.

To those of you who supported us by sending checks in early, The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum will refund your entries as quickly as possible.

It is my hope that we'll be able to return to this event next year.

Sincerely,

Ben Jankowski
Oyster Bay Railroad Museum
