Howdy guys...I've been a round for a short time and realized I hadn't signed in on the Cattle Call...Yeah, I'm one of those that jumps right in and doesn't read the instructions til I think I'm done and I have all of these darned parts leftover. So, a little bit about myself...
AS you can probably tell by my avatar, I'm Kansas State fan (don't care much for jayhawks...but then again, I haven't had a chance to smoke one, so maybe I would like 'em?) In all honesty, my in-laws are jayhawk alums, and they aren't too bad of folk. I got my degree in Animal Science from KSU and after graduation, went to work in the meat industry for about 10 years. Since then, I've moved on into manufacturing management and have really enjoyed the move...other than not getting super good deals on meat...man I miss those $3/lb. boneless lipons and $4/lb T-bones!

So, I've always enjoyed grilling out. When I was a little kid, we had an old charcoal grill, but later, we got a Jacuzzi gas grill which my folks still have. It must be 30 years old now.
My wife and I started out with a gasser...burned it up and got another one. Then, one vacation trip to the Ozarks, we picked up some charcoal and cooked some hamburgers on one of those built in park grills with it and realized all the flavor we were missing from charcoal.
So I found a 22 1/2" Silver Weber at a garage sale about 5 years ago for $15, (the grate still was shiney:-P) ...and the passion has been on since. I started out trying to smoke on it with a little cast iron smoke box. Then I started doing beercan chickens and ribs and anything else I could find.
In the mean time, I picked up a Weber 22 1/2" Gold at a year end clearance for $65 (score?)
This summer I finally got a Brinkmann smoke and grill and thought I was in heaven...yet always fighting the temp control demons and feeding satan charcoal was making me wonder if my $28.88 steal at Wallyworld really was that great.
That's when I came across this awesome site that introduced me to the UDS. I couldn't wait to build one for myself...and I didn't. I had mine put together and smokin' within about a week of first reading about them here. I just completed my 4th smoke on it...but technically only 1 since I only took pics of the inaugral smoke...and as I've found out...it didn't happen unless you have pron:icon_blush:

Ok...so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope to continue to learn a lot from you guys...and maybe someday I can contribute some info too. You all have been great so far and always look forward to getting home from work and seeing what everyone has been up to....Keep the pron a coming!

Welcome to the addiction... Remember, there is no 12 step program for us...

Alway glad to see another one from Agi-Tech... You know, there was a study that said if we (KU) sent the bottom 10% of our class to you (K-State), both our GPA's would raise.... (Can you tell where I went????)

That's OK Brother... we all know that if you sent the bottom 10% of your class west on I-70, you wouldn't have a football or basketball program!

Besides...you do know that all of us aggies from silo tech help contribute to feeding America with quality, wholesome food products which we all enjoy...right?
