I'm so proud of Andy, I don't even have words for it. Andy has become one of my all time best friends. He's the kind of friend who you'll do anything for and will do anything for you. Andy and I talk almost every day. Most of the time it is about BBQ, family, or this place... kind of a combo of the former two. We've learned a lot from each other and together.

It is exciting when we can cook together... do well... cook separately, and still do well. All I have to say is look out in 2009!!! We'll kick it off in Little Rock!

I'm also proud of Randy and the original Pork Pullin Plowboys team. Randy is the brother I never had. We started this BBQ journey in 2001. We've had plenty of average and less than average results. My first thought when we got our first call at the American Royal Open today was how far we've come from the beginning. To finish 16th in that field was a special moment that I was proud to share with my "brother".

BBQ Trailer and camper are cleaned and sitting in storage already. The lack of sleep is setting in.

Great words, Todd! Tammy and I are also proud of Andy and Kim! What an absolute deserved finish for Smoke on Wheels!

Lee and I were very surprised today when we saw the sheets saying we finished 24th overall! That was with no calls! Oddly enough our brisket was what we thought was best today after we considered it the lowest of the four categories in the Invitational. Turns out, it was by far our lowest place (108th). Probably would have cracked the top 20 overall had it been in the same range as our other three categories.

It was a legendary weekend for Sloppy Creek! Thursday night, we hosted a poker party at our site and I won... I NEVER win at poker! Saturday morning, I caught my Spicewine on fire when grease burst into a roaring inferno not ten minutes before we were going to put ribs on it. Thankfully everything else had been wrapped, removed and placed into Lee's FEC to finish! Also luckily, the team next to us failed to show so we were able to pull the smoker over into the open area to prevent our canopy from catching on fire! Followed that up with a DAL in pork in the Invitational and took loads of chit from my brothers for that! And for an encore, we decided that our sausage box should be made from puppy peters trimmed to form the words "EAT ME". No visit from the reps so... Finally, hitting 24th out of 459 teams was a great capper to the weekend!

It was awesome to meet several Brothers I had previously not gotten to meet - Vinny, Sled, Sean, Scott, Speedo, Jaberwabe, Transformer, Tom and Christy and DaChief! Sorry if I left out anyone... I'm totally beat and not thinking clearly! Got home from the Royal, unloaded and then trimmed and seasoned 18 pork butts to cook tomorrow in preparation of feeding 250 folks! I haven't even gotten to shower yet.

The Bellys are so happy for Andy and Kim! These folks are not only good cooks, but they are great people, and Teresa and I are happy to call you our friends. Congrats!

I'm happy we bounced back in the Open after a somewhat dismal showing in the Invitational. The only thing I can attribute it to is that I missed church services at Rev. Randy's on Saturday morning.....we did everything the same both days, just a difference in the judges opinions between Saturday and Sunday.

It was great to meet so many of you, but yet I know I never even got close to seeing everyone from the forum, sorry I didn't get around to everyone.

I'm finally finding a minute to get on line. Trailer dropped, site cleared, and Pooh's trailer staged and ready to run to the Jack.

First, Thank you to everyone for all the warm wishes... esp. all the brothers (and sisters) that were there cheering us on at the awards.

Honestly I don't know what floored me more... getting the calls, or seeing and hearing how many folks were there to help prop me up. I'm still a mess - grinning from ear to ear, and bruised up from all the huggin'. I just can't explain it.

Getting the 1st place pork call for Plowboys in the Invitational, was unreal. Todd, Randy, & I had switched up catagories, so I was really hoping to get us a call. I'm so happy we pulled it off!!! A perfect end to a year that started with a GC at Pleasant Hill. You couldn't have written it any better in a fairy tale.

The Open was amazing. I'm still reeling. Thanks everyone for all the support. It means more than you know to Kim and I. I'll post some pics once I get them.

Todd, I don't even know what to say. We'd have had just as much fun if we were DAL. But it sure has been a year for the record books. All I can say is, I wouldnt have had the year go any other way. You're a great friend, and with all the success you have going for you, I'm just glad I can say " I remember when" Like I remember when the 1st shakers of Yardbird arrived, and I won Chicken @ GAB!!! I remember when the first 500lbs of Bovine Bold came and disappeared! Everything from finalizing Christian's adoption to your editor's gig on Wellfed. Wow man, you have got it goin on. Thanks for letting me along for the ride... I can't wait to see what the next few years have in store!!! I will say it is nice to have a way to cover the cost of Sirius Sat. Radio for the trailer now....

WE are heading back and the laptop is roasting the old nuts.. so I will be quick for now..

First and foremost.... congrats to Andy and Kim!!! ... thats was absolutely the culmination of a great weekend. We had a blast even after getting spanked in the open, But eeing those guys up there with andy grinning from ear to ear.was tops. (only thing that could have been better was jsut one judge making up that half point to put them in Grand!)

we got loads more pics to put up.. but will save that for the hotel tonight.

Side note: we got spanked big time..went from 33rd in the invitatrional to 337 in the open. Started analyzing the scores.. and then just said.. 'no way we are figuring this one out'.. chicken that was 13th in one contest was like 340 in the next contest.... IDENTICAL recipe/technique.

pork which we thought was farking great, got slammed...

and brisket, which i watched go from juicy and moist to beef jerky in front of my eyes while sitting in the box..I thought was DAL.... turned out to be was our highest open score.

So again... congrats to Smoke on Wheels.. and all the others who took the walks.. We will be back one way or another.. it was a great weekend which I will go into later with pics.. and the laptops not cooking stuff.

Just want to chime in and congratulate Andy and Kim once again! What a team you are! And your little girls- even at their young age- knew what that award meant! That's what family is people! I had a great time at a time I really needed it. It was really cool to meet fellow Brethren that I hadn't met before, and spend more time with ones I have. To watch Andy and Todd cook together- well, I know a team when I see it! Todd, thanks for including me this weekend, brother. I hate that I can't spend time with you like I used to, but look forward to that phone call after every contest!

Randy - Thanks for letting me in on the fun! I really enjoy cooking with Todd. But getting to spend time with you when you do make it out- like Laurie last year, the GAB, and the AR....I wouldnt give that up for anything. People watching on Friday night was a blast this year!!! Thanks for the compliments... It is great to be able to share it with the whole family. I think Kaylin really put it in perspective for me when we were sitting there... She said "mommy put together pretty boxes; Daddy you cooked really good, and I prayed alot!" She was saying a little prayer while we were listening to the top 10 overall calls... I was pretty humbled by how much she wanted me to get my name called.... at age 7. Most kids are all "me me me" at that age... (she has her moments... but) she was praying for daddy. Pretty neat for this dad. I have alot to be thankful for.

And having family and friends like Todd, Audrey, You and Sandy - only make it that much sweeter. Thanks again!

Andy and Kim Congrats on the RGC. I enjoyed meeting you and thanks for answering my questions when I picked up the pellets. I dumped my whole hog on its side when unloading it today. One of teh wheels had come off and it tipped over on the trailer ramp. No serious damage that I can tell, but it did bend both of the lid handles. I guess now it looks tough. Congrats again.

Congrats to Stoddard and Brown on that brisket! I told you that it was the second best when I tasted it:wink: You guys were great neighbors and we really enjoyed the time we got to spend visiting with you

Any idea when the judging breakdown score sheets will be out? I'm not smart enough to break down the overall judge scores?

Congrats to Andy and Family. It was great being seated so close to you and see the expressions on your faces!

It was great to meet new brethren and see some I had not in awhile.

I had a blast!

Congrats to everyone else who competed.
Competing in back to back contest like so many did is an accomplishment in it's self.

I think we usually get them in the mail within a couple of weeks.

I figured out what I wanted to. Due to taste not being exactly twice of tenderness (it's .0002 more then double) it's possible to determine all the taste points from each judge. But not always possible to determine the app and tenderness scores (since tenderness is exactly double).

If anyone wants a spreadsheet with all the breakdown possibilties, PM me your email and I'll send it out this evening.

It's too large to fit in here - I already tried.

We had a blast and considering it was our first ever KCBS event, I think we did pretty good with the exception of the undercooked chicken. Our best entry was our ribs which finished 58th. We will definitely do another one.

Andy, Kim congrats again, it was an amazing 4 days. I'm with Todd and Randy on this one you guys are the best and I'm proud to call you friends. To all the other brethren I met it's great to put faces to the names and I'm glad we met, I had a great time come back next year and we'll play it again. Congrats to everyone who competed, that's a feet in itself to just survive this show let alone make a good showing.

Well, I just got home about 4 hours ago. What a trip...

A huge congratulations to all the brethren I got to watch walk up to the stage. That was a helluva showing!! I had a fantastic trip and experience, and after I spend some time with my girls I'll post some thoughts. Great time!

It was almost overwhelming trying to keep up with all of the names of the brethren we met this past weekend. We had so many folks walk up to our area since we were flying the brethren banner. Congrats to all those folks who attended and especially those who got to take the walk. Thanks again for all of the advice on KCBS comps too. I am pretty sure we would have fallen flat on our face had we not gotten some of that advice.
