Hello All

My name is Nat Cowell. I am an ex-submarine cook and graduate of Culinary school who now makes a living as a Network Administrator. I also run a Consulting firm in the Tri-cities.

I am married to a lovely lady and have 4 sons (9, 6 and twin 4's). Active in the community and coaching my sons multiple sports teams.

I love to cook and bake and stumbled across the site looking for advice on which grill / smoker to get. As I read the site I saw the passion level and comraderie and it reminded me of my sub days.

So here I am! I currently have a functioning gas grill but I want to take my game to the next level.

I have saved up roughly $600 give or take and I am looking for advice and guideance!

I do have 4 growing boys who can eat a ton for skinny white kids so I need a larger grill surface I believe. We eat a lot of chicken, beef and pork... some fish. My favorite to grill is Ribs and London Broil.

Any advice will be valued!

Thanks so much

Nat

$600 will get you three WSMs, a whole fleet of UDSs, and a good start on many other cookers.
Welcome to the best clubhouse on the web!

Welcome Nat. Look at a WSM and build a Ugly Drum Smoker. If your gasser has a side burner, keep it to light charcoal chimneys! Enjoy the ride!

Welcome Nat. You have come to the right place.

What kind of cooking are you wanting to do, grilling, smoking, or both.

Hey Dave

I generally cook chicken (drums & wings), burgers etc... I have the whole baseball team over. When I am cooking for me I love ribs and chicken and steaks. So I will be doing both hopefully and I go through quite a bit at each time.

Thx

Nat

I suggest building 5 UDSes and then spending the remaining money on meat, rubs, sauces and gadgets!

Welcome to the best Q board around.

Welcome Nat. As you can see the Weber Smokey Mountain & Ugly Drum Smokers are very popular here. They are inexpensive and relatively easy to use. Look for some threads on the UDS and you will see what I mean.

Welcome Bro. Remember, it's not the cooker, it's the cook. Tell us what you want to cook with it, what type of fuel you want to use, and what size of cooker you need and we will be better able to advise you. Most of us have several cookers for different reasons. There is no one best cooker.
