I'll be there, but not doing people's choice. The chef for the event center told me they are expecting 20,000 people per day.

I really need to get my food handlers permit.

We are not doing the peoples choice. Having a big party Friday night. Around 100 people. It's nice to get to go back home and cook for my family in friends in Lincoln. Kinda sad, its the first Nebraska contest where my dad won't be there. I thought alot about him yesterday. I wish I could show him the trophy we got for our first GC in Marysville. I miss him. He loved my BBQ and I always called him on the way home from the contests to tell him how we did. This weeks for you Dad :-P.

Matt,

No worries. I just had Rick move me to spot 28. Should be easier to get in and out of.

Moving to the darkside by us huh...cool. Now, we will have to orchestrate the "Dance of the Trailers" back up into that corner, already talked to Dan (neighbors to the East) he may pull down with us, we will make it a Convoy :-D

Right now, I'll have no one behind me, Thought I could either pull through to the grass or back in and have my door to the inside of my spot.

You guys should be able to back in.

Any of you guys have a good way to anchor an Easy-Up down on the concrete? I used to use these, but i recently used them for footings when I rebuilt my deck:

Try 3" tapcons with a large washer. Use a power drill with a flat head bit to drive them in the asphalt.

That would work, but I doubt that they would allow it.

I have some cinder blocks at home, I think i might just use them.

I had 45 pound weights on my ez-up at Osage City this year and the wind sent them into flight.

Grab 4 buckets and fill them with water. Place the legs of your easy-up inside the buckets and tie down to the bucket handles.

Good luck all, I'll be due east about 2 1/2 hours.

Call me if a gust of wind comes along so I can hold down the EZ up. Thanks

I don't know about anyone else but I feel beat up by the class of rookie CBJs after this one. Those were the lowest scores across the board we've ever received. We were given our first 3 in taste (or any scoring category) ever. When I heard they were all recruited from the same judging class, I wished I had attended that specific class.

I agree, and I posted about it on the BBQ forum. I had 9's from one judge and 5's from another in taste and texture, in multiple categories.

To me, my scores looked like they were throwing darts at a dart board from about 50 yards away. Pretty much I am not changing a single thing after this comp.

I do think that I know part of the problem though:
Saturday morning two young guys came up to me and asked me about cooking a pork butt, because they had never smoked anything before. They told me they bought a 16 pound shoulder and wanted to know if they should cut it in half. I told them I would separate the picnic and the butt, but that they would need a saw. I got glazed over looks from both of them.

Then I said "maybe you should just get a pork butt.", they said that is what they had. So I asked where they found a 16 pound butt??? I told them it was probably two butts in one package. They wanted to know if 24 hours was too long to cook it.

Then I noticed they were both wearing CBJ pins.

I said to them "How can you be a CBJ if you have never made BBQ????"
They said "well we just had to take a class and we know what we like."

So take that as you will, but I suspect this was part of the reason that the scores were weird.
