I got a drum last night that was at a machine shop next door to a buddy of mine. Before it was used as a mineral oil holder it had Apple juice in it.
I have spent the last 2 hours burning the paint off the out side as well as the paint on the inside with the weed torch....I was going to just build a fire inside it and do it that way but my neighbors would try to string me up if there was tomuch black smoke.
So my question is how do I know if I have all the paint off the inside? Am I supposed to have it down to bare metal or what?

Burn it when it's dark out.

Bare metal is what you want. There will be a carbon build up afterwards so bust out the wire wheel and remove it.

Good luck on your build, and post some pictures.
I had a drum that had the paint inside too.
I never could get it all burned out with the weed burner. The smell that stuff puts off is horrible.
I couldnt burn it out either with a fire because the city has a burn ban.
I drilled my holes on the bottom for the vents then added 30 pounds of charcoal and let it burn for 25 or so hours.
It seemed to work out for me that way.
