I'll likely take Father's Day off from cooking. Not my normal MO, but I'll be doing a big (for me) cook the day before.

My oldest sister has her turn at hosting our biannual family reunion next year, and she mentioned getting takeout BBQ like my brother did a few years ago when it was his turn. I have offered to cook the meat since I believe I can do a better job than any of the local BBQ restaurants.

This Saturday we will be having an impromptu mini-reunion since a few out of town family members will be in the area, so I thought I've give them a sample to let them decide if they really want me cooking for the whole gang next year.

I plan on making Roadside Chicken thighs, cherry smoked chicken breasts, pulled boston butt, baby back ribs, and Kerri's Hog Apple beans.

Sunday I'll rest/feast on leftovers (if there are any!)

So..... for Saturday, just making some smoked ribs and carne asada, maybe a bunch of ABTs. Smokin' is my pleasure.... my birthday present to myself. Plus we will have some Cabo Wabo, and of course, Fat Tires.... no wait, I think I will go with Newcastles this weekend. mmmmm Cabo Wabo shots with Newcastle chasers.

Doin baby backs and Keri's hog apple beans. Found this out this morning. Cooking for me, Mrs. MM, her parents and her brother and his wife the freeloading, coddled, spoiled leach. She is worthy of a Woodpile thread, much like Jay's SIL .

Wifes dad asked if I'd mind cooking. For him and us, no problem, heck, add in the entire street :icon_cool. But that chick, I'd like to let her starve.

Sorry, rant over, please continue.

I'll be doing a couple of CAB rib-eyes and several pounds of Alaskan King Crab Legs with some corn on the cob and a salad for my son & myself. The women are having teriyaki chicken breasts with corn and the salad.

They had a good mother's day.

Happy Father's Day fellas!

I'll have three generations of fathers/son's at my place Sunday, and here's what's cookin':

I. Appetizer Course.

Tiger prawns - skewered and marinated in a soy/ginger/scallion sauce. I'll add some Jalepenos to another batch of the sauce who those who want some kick, like me. Quick high heat grilled.

Served with Vueve Clicquot Champagne.

II. First Course.

Fresh Tuna - Caught by yours truly last Sunday in the Sea of Cortez 60 miles off the Baja East Cape.

Fillet'd and blackened and grilled rare over high heat. Blackened with cracked black pepper, white pepper, salt, thyme, oregano, onion, garlic, dill

Served with a green salad.

III. Main Course

Choice Angus Brisket - 7lb flat - from Ver Brugge Meats, Oakland CA

Savory Brisket Dry Rub - rubbed overnight before Q'ing

1/2 C Onion Powder
1/4 C Kosher Salt
1/4 C Garlic Powder
1/4 C Hungarian Paprika
1/4 C Brown Sugar
1/4 C Cracked Black Pepper

Served with my wife's Alsatian Potato Salad (like a German version, but no bacon)

Brisket sauce will be Everett & Jones bottled sauce cut with some cold black coffee. http://super-que.com/

And, for weekend munchies, these are cookin on Saturday

2 Pork Shoulder Butts - bone-in - 5lb each

Injected with "Chris Lilly's Six-time World Championship Pork Shoulder injection"

Pork injection
3/4 cup apple juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
2 tablespoons Worcestershire

Rubbed with the "The Renowned Mr. Brown" Southern Sucor Rub. http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/pork2.html

1/4 cup ground black pepper
1/4 cup paprika
1/4 cup Turbinado sugar
2 Tablespoons table salt
2 teaspoons dry mustard

Looks like the wife will be cooking a couple of tri tips on a rotiserrie, which is my dads gasser grill. I'd prefer to cook on the Egg, but we'll be at my parents and I don't feel like loading the Egg up and taking it over there. Especially since I'll probably be hung over! Happy Dads day to you all.:-D
