I just ran into a guy that is putting on a cooking class here tomorrow and Sunday, Chris Marks from the The Little Pig's team. Nice guy and has won a lot of awards. Does anyone have one of these cookers or are familiar with? http://www.thegood-one.com/index.php

I know three or four guys that have different sizes of the Good One. they all like the cooker, even temps side to side & not to bad on fuel.

I am at the BBQlossal (World Pork Expo, Des Moines, Iowa) Thursday & Friday as a volunteer. There are probably 5 or 6 Good One's being used in this contest. That might be a sign :-D.

They are very nice smokers, not huge for capacity though. They used to be family owned company out of Topeka, KS. I know they were bought, but I dont know if quality suffered after or not.

Chris Marks is the general manager for the company. They are good, heavy, well made smokers. Made in Burns, Kansas by Ron Goodwin and his son. I cooked on one last year and was impressed at how even the temps were.

I don't know about that. My Model 42 (now called the Rodeo) will easily hold 40 slabs of ribs or a dozen briskets or butts or a ton of chicken.

AlbuQue... I really like my Good One. I treat it like a big WSM and use a modified minion burn (I lay out lump on either side of the firebox and put the lit lump in the middle and let it burn towards the outside. I can get 5 -6 hours easily on one load of lump and then add lump or wood as it burns down to keep it going.

I was looking at the Marshall which is 30" X 24". Pretty pricey though at about $2,500.

You have to consider that the Marshall has 20 sq.ft. (2880 sq.in.) of cooking area. What are your other choices? Compare and see if they have this capacity. Also steel prices are on the rise. After using mine I really like how it cooks. I will be tested how well I can cook on it at the end of the month in my first contest as head cook.

I must confess this was not my first choice of smokers. I just happen to get the opportunity to steal this from a fellow vendor, for $1000, at the renaissance fair here in Des Moines. His wife was allergic to smoke and he had not used it in 7 years. It still needs some rehab but it does cook well in its present state.

Just my $.02.

PM me if you have other question.
