Was driving to the bank and spotted a rummage where something by the garage caught my eye. I pulled in and found this available for adoption!

Brought her home immediately. It is an old one, but there is no date stamp on the vent. Handles are all ceramic covered, the vent says "Weber Bros Metal Wks Bar-B-Que Kettle Chicago, ILL"

Anyone have an idea as to age? I don't think the wheels or bottom shelf are original, but a new cooking grate and she will be fine. It's a 22 1/2" type.
Oh, yeah, did I mention she was $2.00? :icon_cool

Sweet score!!
That bad boy is old. I have a 1974, and it has a wood handle on the dome and plactic wheels. Your score is much older than that. You could be looking at a mid to late '60s or very early 70's model. Maybe even older!
WOOHOO!

I tried to research a bit on this kettle I picked up and I think it might be one of the first ones made. Found this link (http://weber.mediaroom.com/file.php/407/50th+Anniversary+Poster_Timeline+Final.pdf), which seems to indicate it was first made in 1956 based on the picture timeline.:shock::shock::biggrin:
Here is a clip of the item if you don't want to go to the link.

Now I really wonder what its worth. I can't believe I got this for $2.00. The wheels and tray beneath are original based on the photo.
Wow.

I downloaded that history page, and I would guess that you have a 1956 or 1957 as in 1958 they started using an ash pan and the "webbed" triangle between the legs.
So COOL!

WOW! Very nice score SQ! Some fine steel wool and a little elbow grease will really bring that back to life. I'd be careful using it on a wooded deck without an ash pan closer to the vents IMO, but regardless, that is a rare find!
