At the store where we shop all the time. The head butcher is a lady.:-D She is nice and knows her stuff. :-D We were doing our shopping and stopped and asked her to cut us some pork steaks to do this weekend. She brought out the steaks and then asked if I smoked turkeys other than just around holidays. She always gets us fresh young turkeys around the holidays.:-D I said sometimes I do. She says I know these aren't what you usually order but Wed. we got in a case of 6 fresh Honeysuckle young turkeys. ( unfrozen ) She said they were labeled fresh and that the store couldn't freeze them and that they had 2 of them in the display case since Wed and neither had sold and she didn't expect to sell them this time of year. They got shipped by to the store by mistake. She said the other 4 were still in the meat cooler in back and that if I wanted all 4, she would give me a great mark-down price to buy them. I said maybe one but what am I going to do with 4? She said smoke 1 and freeze the rest.:-DThe smallest one weighed 11.86 pounds and the biggest one 12.68 pounds, Perfect size for smoking.:-D So I said OK, How much? She smiled and said take all 4 and there yours for 29 cents a pound.:-D The 4 weighed 48.91 pounds - Total = $14.18  So, I guess I'll be eatin' turkey for a while.

Guys, I grew up in South Georgia, and I too ate many a pork steak as a yoout. We raised breeding stock [hogs and beef] but we always had meat animals too.

Nice score on the turkey OSD. Many good meals to come.
