I don't like the stuff at all... I only ordered a 5lb batch 'cause I knew Todd would need a little extra change for his new Q-wagon!!!

Good stuff. I've used it several times and the family really likes it.

Speaking of Spicewine, I came home with some of his Fire Good sauce at the same time. I've been using that when I have eggs for breakfast. Another winner!

Man I think I'll have to try this plowboys stuff. It might be catching on!

I've also heard that the internet is going to be a big thing someday.... and IBM just told me they want to swap my token rings for Ethernet cards... what's Ethernet?

(Oh yea, that Plowboy Stuff mod).

Good stuff. I've used it several times and the family really likes it.

Just Brothers working with Brothers to help each other!!! Todd has helped me get my product into some different markets and in turn I sell his product on my site. A Win- Win situation for both of us.

Todd (or any other experienced user),

What's the maximum temp you'd recommend when using the Yardbird Rub?

I did a beer butt chicken on the kettle a couple weeks ago. Got sidetracked, and temps ran away from me. Not sure how hot it got, but it sure charred the rub! :frown::frown:

Thanks,

JimT

Yikes. I use white sugar which doesn't hold up like raw sugar or brown, but most people grill chicken over direct coals at around 350 degrees. Any rub with sugar is going to char during high temp searing. I've had some folks ask for sugar free versions for high temp cooking.

Thanks for the reply, Todd.

I've had good luck with your rub going indirect on my weber kettle. Normally, I'm cooking around 325 degrees. That cook I mentioned got over 400 (my bad.) Would you agree that the 325 range is about the maximum the rub will withstand??

IF you cook with it above 400 - you just have to watch and turn/flip as you go. I have had success with it over 400, but if you leave it... you could end up with more char than you like.

Oddly - on my country smoker.... I can cook at 450 with it, and it still does not burn up. not sure if it is the moisture in the cooker, or the indirect heat or what... but it just works it's mojo :)

True. We cook those pork fillets on your Country Smoker at pretty high temps.

I have to agree with everyone here. I tried the Plowboy rub for the first time this last weekend and it was great. I put it on some chicken thighs and a couple of turkey boobs. It is fantastic stuff.

I'll make you a sugar free.

A sugar free with morton's lite (potassium chloride, instead of sodium chloride) is what she really needs. I can get you the lite salt, if you do decide to make a batch!

Get this (seems like as good as place as any to post this)

So the sales geek there is trying to sell this guy a smoker as I walk in and as I walk by I heard him say the famous sales line "It's a true set it and forget it smoker" being the only part of the sales pitch I heard, I couldn't help but to get a small chuckle to myself. A few minutes later they come back to the rubs and sauces as the customer is asking questions about different rubs, brines and sauces for different cuts. All is well until the sales guy says, "This is the rub I use and recommend for competition pork loin." Being in KC, I think it's safe to assume he was implying KCBS, again I stay quiet and just continue to listen. After the customer left emtpy handed, I asked where the Yardbird was.

That's a good idea. Have everyone you know go in there and ask for Yardbird Rub. Eventually they may get the idea.8-)

Do that with Spice's products, too. Can't seem to crack the KC area stores, but I think it was a timing issue. With the season starting up, it might be easier to get in. I KNOW that there is demand for Jay's products here in KC. God knows he has cookers everywhere, so there is major name recognition. I just don't think they know what they are missing.
