View Full Version : Traeger in a rain storum? Uh Oh

About to start the new competition year with my new Traeger. So I'm curious? Has anyone been caught in the rain? How sensitive are the electronics? And what type of emergency things ( a.k.a. rain gear ) should I pack along? I do have the hydrotuff cover, and will cook under an Easy-up tent, but what if all hell breaks loose and the tent goes sailing?
Any suggestions or stories from experiences?

Not much of Q Competitor so no advice there, but how about stopping by Cattle Call and introduce yourself.
You also might get more information in the Competition Forum, but I'm sure the Mods will move this for you.

I've smoked in the rain and ice many times. No worries. Just be careful how much moisture you get in that pellet hopper.

For what it is worth - I run my Traeger in the rain all the time. It would kind of hard not to living in the great northwest. When it is not in use it is under the hydrotuff cover but while running I have not had any issues with rain. I would suggest you watch where you put your other electronic devices in the rain however. I have blown up a couple digital theroms by leaveing them on top of the pit.

Thanks for the info. I feel a lot better that folks have had them rained on and it is not a total loss.
See you guys out there....

For what it is worth I placed 3rd out of 45 this past weekend on my traeger in chicken against some mighty stiff competition(FBA). I know this does not help with the rain issue. Just wanted to brag on my pellet pooper (and me) a little.
Good luck in the comps!
