Save the date, July 18th and 19th in Leesport, PA. Berks BBQ Bash is now set, and is now KCBS sanctioned. It was sanctioned last Friday. This was a great event last year, w/ a beautiful venue. Applications are not available just yet, Tom is waiting for the radio station to send them to him. Anyone planning on attending this?

This was probably my favorite event last year. Although I only have 1 more to compare it to. I don't know if it is because it was so close to home, or because of the venue. There was supposedly a pond to fish in, although I never left the cooking area. Hopefully we get a good turn out this year, last year I think there were 16 teams.

This was the first EXPO that I was ever at. I was a little dissapointed. There were maybe 8 tables inside and 3 people w/ smoker set ups. It was interesting seeing some of the set ups. Someone had a Meadow Creek 500 and a huge chicken box and two wash basins. From what I heard, the guy that was in charge of the Expo fell behind. Tom said next year it will be a lot better.

Out of curiousity, who told you that the guy in charge of the expo fell behind?

I am not sure who the guy was. We were talking about the 500 and then the Expo came up. The guy said that there were not as many vendors as they hoped for. He said the guy that was setting it up was very busy and it just didn't go off the way they had hopped. He was not talking bad about the guy, he just said that this year they are going to start planning very early, and hope to have a better turn out.

It is impressive, but I think it is too big. I don't know why you would need something that massive.

Plus I was told it uses 80lbs-100lbs of charcole to start the darn thing.

I dont' see why 3 feet would make much of a difference. Talk to Tom. I mean we had a car that extended past the 20X20, so I dont' think it would be a problem. But then again, who am I.

Um, no. I was on the committee and I can tell you that the gentleman who headed up the committee worked his butt off (so did everyone else who helped). There were a number of factors that contributed to the low vendor turnout this year, but that wasn't one of them.

I am sure he did. I have tried to set up events, and it is extremely difficult to get people involved. I was just told that the turn out was not as good as they had wanted it to be, and they are going to work even harder next year to have a better turn out.

I've got a friend that lives in Temple, and he's always trying to get me to come up and visit him - this sounds like a good excuse to make that trip!

The contest is held at a site that's some sort of park, so his kids could play in the water park while we check out the Q!

Yeah last year there was plenty to keep the kids entertained. I do not have kids, but this is what some parents told me. It is a very nice park, a lot of fun. I would definetly recommend coming up.

I was able to get decent plane tickets for my son and myself, so we will be visiting our friends in Reading from July 17-20.

I've told them that one of the reasons for the trip will be to check out this competition. He said the park is only about a 15 minute drive from his house, so I'll be seeing some of you farkers in July!

Who's all signed up to do Berk's?,, heard from tom christine today at yardley that there isn't too many signed up yet... was a well run comp last year and a really nice location,,,I'm looking forward too it,,, judging today at yardley was ok,,, but I'd much rather be competing, and berk's will be our first for the year.
