There will be a chili cook off in Mastic on April 27th. They are still looking for a few teams. Here is the website:

http://www.hamcli.com/

If you are interested in attending/competing/vending, check it out.

I'm thinking about competing and I'm going to most likely use smoked brisket for the meat (see how I tied that all together with BBQ? Nice!!!).

I'm not sure if I want to judge or compete. If anyone is interested in forming a team, let me know.

Chili and Biker Chicks !!!!!!!!!! Umm... Ummm... good (except for the nasty looking ones).

Is the midget tossing and dunk the hot biker babe being conducted like some of the other events seen in the photo gallery ? Those Hells Angels know how to party (although I the midget tossing is a bit crude).

June 1 is the 13th Annual Hells Angel's Pig Summer Pig Roast & BBQ Fest

ALot of worse neighborhoods exist on the Island. Its low income, an old type suburb with alot of bungalos. As far as the contest I think we will be well protected:wink:

I think the Red Hot Loco Peppers need to make green chili.
I was thinking about doing the green but since it is one category with red or green as the option i most likely will not. I know it will not do well against the red which is the majority of what most will cook. Even though my green tastes good people eat with their eyes. The green doesnt look that appetizing compared to the red.

For sure.

I "table captained" an ancillary chili category at an FBA event.
One green chili entry--it tanked big time.
By far, the best tasting chili of the group, but.....

TIM I entered it last year in a chili fun cook that was blind judged. Received the same response from judges afterward who came to my tent for more! They told me they scored it down just base on the appearance. I have never cooked red so this should be interesting. I asked the organizer if he would consider splitting it up but since it is a first year comp they are trying to keep it simple.

Got the update today from Rod, everything looking good.
Here is an excerpt fyi:

"There will be trophies for both first place finishes (Judged & Peoples Choice) and ribbons and metals from 2nd to 5th in both categories! There is a motorcycle gas tank that has been painted by John Cassatto that will be given to the motorcycle club (MC) that finishes the best out of all the MC's. The tank will get their clubs name and year put on it and remain in that clubs club house for the year until the 2009 chili cook off in which it will be returned and competed for again. (Like the Stanley Cup of the chili cook off)

There will be a cash prize of a $100 for first prize Judged & $75 for First Prize Peoples Choice. Jack Daniels Distillery will be giving a bottle of Single Barrel Jack to both first place prizes, a bottle of Gentlemans Jack for both second place prizes and a bottle of regular Jack Daniels for both third place prizes. The Blue Point Brewery of Long Island will be giving each Team a six pack of there fine beverages to drink or cook with which helps you make the best chili. Also Blue Point will be giving half gallon jugs for first threw third place in both categories.

Live Music will be the Rock-a-Billie sounds of the "Razorbacks".

Hope y'all come out to see us win this thing!
(except the gas tank.)

Hi,

If you are competing at this event and wouldn't mind sharing some of your space with Breast Cancer Help, so they can sell raffles for their motorcycle giveaway.

They were going to hook up with Willie when he was tentatively going to attend, but that's not happening.

Please let me know.

To be honest i wouldn't mind if we had a bigger space than 10 x 10 but that makes it impossible. With tables, a wash station and cookers it barely gives enough room to cook in Maybe the organizer will make an exception and let them have a table since it is for a good not for profit cause

I know space is tight but we three Brethren teams are planning on setting up around the same time Saturday evening and if we do all three get together in sort of a "Brethren row", I am sure we could try and carve out some space among us for a couple of folks from BCH. Heck, all they need is about a card table sized chunk of space, si?
Hopefully Julie and Steve will chime in ........

It IS at the intersection. Here are the directions from the organizer. Once you get down there you it wont be hard to figure out(look for a lot of bikes)

Directions I usually take Sunrise out and get off on the William Floyd going south. Go threw the first intersection to the next set of lights where you will make a left. The road will hook back and you will be heading toward the railroad station. Make a right and follow that road all the way down until you hit a traffic light. The Demon Knights Club House is the corner across that intersection on the right.

Hi and Hello to all.

First of all, this was one of the most amazing things I have participated in in a long time. 8)
The event itself was run like clockwork and I had an absolute blast.
I was also very proud of my fellow brethren teams and glad they were able to garner 4th and third place, judged chili. I believe we represented the Brethren well.

I must confess to a slight miscalculation on my part, I did amp up my scoville level for this event, with consideration to the Judges who I figured most of which would be members of the Angels or one of the mcs.
As a result, my turn in and peoples-judged had a very nice bite , good color, consistency and aroma; but must admit the taste had a rather dominant blend - a result of some very special, dry, aged chilis.
No excuses at all, as stated above, we had a tremendous time and it was truly an event to remember and I look forward to next year.
(Thanks Eric for your gracious review per an earlier post above.)

Rod of the Hot Dawg Truck, the Demon Knights and all the other clubs and teams really put on a great show.
The band was very good; a rockabilly band called the Razorbacks with the traditional 3 piece set up; drummer, lead guitar and standup slap base. (The guitar player had a snakeskin sport coat, straw cowboy hat and an ever present cigarrette dangling from the corner of his mouth as he sang and played lead.)

I got there first around 6;15 am and was able to get set up to include two spots to my left for Sled/Phil and then Julie and the Swamp Pit.
Thus we had our Brethren Row.
We had the drizzle for a while but it stayed dry once the guys and gals arrived from the run and needless to say, their arrival was a sight to behold.
What a day, what an event and what a great time we had.

ps.
The title quote came from Phil on my left to me about 2/3 of the way through the peoples choice tasting.

As far as pictures, my long-time friend, native Texan and pot bitch Tim B. took some and as soon as I get them, I will try and post/

Congrats to all the Brethren! Well done! Our Town is celebrating it's 300th. We saw an reenactment of the Battle of Ridgefield. In the Battle, the Ridgefield colonials after consuming a per capita 2 liters of rum, held off 2000 British Troups long enough to prevent them from returning to their ship ancored in Westport as helped arrived. Reminds me of the Battle of the BBQ Brethren....

I decided to try out one of the new features and created an Album for the Hells Angels 81 Thunder Run and Chili Cook-Off.
It is located at my profile. See above 'members list' and click the w's, scroll down and click on Westexbbq and it is set up on the right or you can click Albums.
Hope you all can see it there if you want and /or if one of the mods wants to post it out front, that would be cool.
(hint, if you look in the background on a couple you can see our recuperating brethern Sledneck from early on in the day.)
