Thanks to Scott Burke for grabbing some pictures yesterday of my trailer being built. Apparently, everything is framed and ready to come off of the jig. I'm guessing I'll have it by the middle of March. Told them I want it for first comp on April 4.

This will end up being a 22'x8' trailer with 7' floor to roof. Enclosed kitchen will measure 18'. Remaining 4' will be a covered deck on the back. There will be no door on the back deck.

I'm not a trailer expert, Todd, but don't you think things are going to blow right out of it? It's also going to make some amazing sparks as you drag it down the highway.

I thought about getting wheels, but they were pretty expensive.

Is it me or does this look like it's going to turn wide? The deck looks like it will start immediately after the wheel wells.

Great looking trailer.

The ventilation has got to be wonderful! Poor man's air conditioning
Just throw a tarp over the top and you can keep the rain off.
CheKeeta is gonna be jealous.

Seriously--it's a good start.

I would assume that the builders have a grip on things like turning radius, rear sweep, balance, etc.
Or, I would certainly hope so.

At a quick glance (and no more), I can see a lot of tongue weight if the smoker (s) behind the wheels are not REALLY heavy to offset the front weight. It is a matter of "Moment" in weight and balance terms.

But.......

Good looking trailer.
When I had mine built, I did a lay out of everything that I want on it, then tryed to put a weight to each piece of equipment to position the axles for a good tongue weight and turn radius.
You'll never get it perfect, but good weight distribution sure makes pulling and turning it a lot easier.

We did the same thing. Did a full layout and estimated weight. Should be balanced. Just wondering what turn radius is going to look like. It can't be worse than my 29" camper. Will probably have the same turn radius without the added swing in the back... which is good.

My configuration is going to run over $15k. I'm not sure yet how much more. We've added a few things from the original quote. It will have a vend window, two 30 amp services. One will run the air conditioning with heat strip. The other will run the rest of the trailer. Generator will be mounted on the tongue along with propane bottle for RV 6 gal water heater. Water tanks and pump will be included. Will have an 18' awning. Back deck will be sprayed with Line-X type bed liner.

I'll build the interior cabinets and install the sinks myself.

The two 30 amp services came from a conversation Andy and I were having about it. At contests, I can hook up to available power and run my air off of the generator. Or, I can run a second 2000 watt generator for the air and the mounted 3000 watt for the rest of the trailer... or vice versa. I'm having outlets run from both services run to the fridge so I can plug it into one or the other. Brilliant idea, I think.

I will get some my camera is at the office, nice push button locking doors and draws, it is just unexplainable. Very very nice. it took the cabinet company an extra week but it was well worth it and I have no complaints. I hope to have the health Dept come and inspect with in the next few weeks. at least that is the plan. They were just a little peeved that we did not submit a plan before we built but this all started as a contest rig. Not a catering rig per say.

Todd the double drawers were the best thing I think we did. you can never have enough drawers. Now it wont look like a bomb went off inside the trailer at any given contest. everything is put away and has its own place. we for sure really like the new cabinet setup and are really happy we went all last year with out any cabinets so we could do a lot of planning. I feel it really paid off. Some might say that we might have to many cabinets but hey who cares. We like them.

Notice the push button locks so the doors and drawers wont come open when your going down the road. great option.

As a general rule, you can't have a water closet in a commercial kitchen. If you had a separate room that had a water closet, then okay. This is what Randy has in his trailer. he has a living quarters in the front with a WC. Not part of the kitchen.

We've had many discussions about the black. We know what we are getting into. I have a black trailer now.

We'll see what logos look like. If I can get a decent sponsor, it might get a partial wrap. That could cover a lot of the black. Right now, I'm focused on getting it functional, outfitted, and paid for. It might go logo-less for quite awhile.

Plowboy, that looks like a nice outfit. We've sorta met I believe at Rod's class in Desoto and you've been kind enough to post the address of your fabricator. One more question please. In my state (Arkansas) a plan has to be submitted for approval for a mobile food facility ( probably will do very little catering but If I build or buy I want it to be legal in case I want to sell. How do most people comply with the water fillup and waste disposal requirement. Arkansas requires an approved facility for this.
Thanks. Robbie

I would think Black would make it pretty dark in there. Do they have the standard grade school/hospital grey specked? That would hide dirt, and still be light enough to brighten a little when your lights are hitting it...

And Kaylin asked me to put a smiley face on here.... so :icon_clown -- a smiley face from Kaylin.

matthew burt

Putty.
I would use Silicone, with all the climate changes in the trailer I would be worried that the putty will dry up and crack. You can take 2 screw drivers and stick them in the holes in the bottom of the strainers and take a 3rd screwdriver and slide between them to hold it, then tighten the nut with pliers. If you need anything feel free to call me 913-915-6351

If you have DirecTV, they will upgrade you for free. I got the new Slimline HD dish with new receiver delivered and installed for free. Paid nothing for the new equipment or installation. You have to go through DirecTV, though. If you just want an extra dish for comps or whatever, they'll give you one. They were going to give me an old dish, until I got the new one for the house.

The dish I'm using for the trailer is the old HD oval from atop of my house. The receiver is my old HD-DVR receiver. Not only will we have satellite, we'll have HD and Tivo.
