View Full Version : Northern Bash?

As it seems there are a few more Brethren enrolling in the Northern states like MI, NE, IA, and WI, I think it would be great to have a bash for us. Thinking spring of course. Any thoughts from these Brothers?

I think we need to plan around the Comp dates. Many of the Brethren are in teams, so that limits our dates. We could, however, tentavly, plan a place. Any ideas?

I'm thinking cental IA or Northwest Ia for location. Maybe get some of the COFO's there.

Pick a date and I can check on places here in central Iowa or Northwest Ia. I grew up in that part of Iowa. Saylorville Lake has many camp ground that have spots for campers and tents. No cabins like at Basswood Resort in MO. If we have it here near Des Moines some of the MOFO's would probably consider showing up.

If we tried this maybe end of April, it could work for me. Any chance you can get the Rules and regs for Saylorville? We need to know if we will need Park stickers, alcohol policies, dogs, music, and of course many large smokers.

Not sure that saylorville CG would be too keen on a "group smoke" though.
They do have a group CG area that could work if the smokin' is allowed.

Man I'm from central Iowa, moved out here in the greate NORTH-WET in 1993, I go back there about every year sure would like to meet new people and cooks some Que ! There is a Sate Park over in Boone Iowa called ( Ledges State Park ) this is a real cool place has Sand-Stone hill's and such, but some-where around Des Moines would be ok, per has a Big Airport, I can fly back there, probably would just build a couple UDS'S there, then give them to my Brother-in-law, get him going in Que, end of April let's see, Morel Mushrooms would be in and Crappies go on spawn too !

Both. Most bashes have been Bros only but some have included spouses for at least part of the time. The last Midwest Bash featured a family friendly one. It was very successful IMHO.

I emailed the Iowa State Parks and they sent me a list of parks. I would think not having liqour in a State Park rule, we should look at them as a last resort. I also did some online searching and found a few private parks in mid Iowa (des moines area). I emailed one with camp sites, rv, sites and cabins all in the same area, but have not heard back from them.
I will give them till next week and then call then. I suspect they are still trying to de ice after this weeks fun. I will keep you posted.

Ok have heard back from the private campground. This place is called Timberline and is a few miles West of Des Moines and just North of I-80

www.timberlineiowa.com (http://www.timberlineiowa.com)

Check it out and let me know. The lady there says 2008 pricing will take affect after the first of the year, so take the pricing with a grain of salt. 10% discount if we have 20 or more registerd guests. She would also like to get this on her books soon, so let's not drag our feet here. If it looks good, let's go with it, if we want to pass that is fine as well. I just want to let her know.

txschutte
12-12-2007, 05:42 PM

I think it looks like a great place and as it has RV hook ups, camping pads and cabins all in the same area I think it will work. Any place is as good as the people you are with. Barring anything out of the usual that Pyle might find on his inspection, I think we need to do a roll call and I will then give the lady a call and see if we can hold some spots and let people call in and reserve directly.

So to start of the Roll Call, I am in.

OK, I'm thinkin about this one. Looking at the web site there are a few areas of possible concern for the Brethren:

2. Quiet Hours- 10 PM-7 AM. Please be considerate of your neighbor.
10. Campfires in fire rings only. Do not leave unattended. No Trash, wood only. Please extinguish before retiring.
16. Generators, firearms or fireworks are not permitted.
I'm just sayin, can we have fun under those circumstances?

Just about every private campground has those rules. The one we were at had the same rules. Being that early in the season they prolly won't enforce anything. We didn't have any problems. If you try to get everyone in the same area with a mix of cabins and sites that works out for everyone. I'll even try to make it up there.

Price is $45.00 per night for up to 4 people age 3 and up. I sent my e-mail to them late Sat nite & got an answer today.

One of the nice things is that the camp ground is about 10 min. from Costco and 15 min. from Sam's Club. If you want to wait to shop here it is easy to do.

I may get just get a primitive campsite and sleep in my truck.

Seeing as we three were kinda the (un) official record keepers last time, are we up to the challenge for this bash? Y'all ever heard 'bout my "Rent A Witness" program:twisted:?

HoDeDo told me he was competing that weekend so he couldn't make it. We may take their world title away from them.

ROLL CALL

Ok brothers time to find out who all is coming and how many and what you plan on bringing. Reply to this post so we can keep everyting together and readily available to see.

I think we should have Friday a catch as catch can, if you are there and wantg to share amongst the gang great but no formal plans

Breakfasts and lunch on your own unless sombody wants to "host" something.

Dinner on Saturday can be a "pot Luck" cook what you want to share with the group.

Ultimately I am thinking this is going to fall out like a comp, and everybody is going to be sharing with everybody else. But some planning is good.

I think the meaqt should be no problem on Saturday, so perhaps plan on doing a side dish or dessert or both for Saturday.

For us there will just be two of us.

We will do a potato gratin dish and as I am starting to dabble in Dutch Oven cooking I will do peach cobbler dessert. Also for Sunday Morning if you wnat to stop by I will be doing a Dutch Oven breakfast that we would like to perfect for when we vend. Why not perfect with some of the brothers.

So whatcha bringing??????

My friends funeral is Sat Morn. at 10. The company has asked me to talk at his funeral since I seemed the closest to him.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Bad news guys. I am not going to be able to be at the whole bash this weekend. I hurt my back at work on Wednesday and am laid up. I may make it out on Saturday sometime but will not be able to stay long. I do want to make it out there to meet everyone. I am not sure when I will get out there, but I will be out there.

OK RAIN FARKING STOP ALREADY.... The last big cell is over us right now (were an hour NW of Omaha) and its pouring, bad news is its headed right down the I-80 corridor.....hoping that it all lets up by tonight. Were running behind because of it but will be there eventually.

Bryan, dont push yourself, a healed back is much more important than this quick get together, there will be many more Im sure...

Txshutte,

I went out to the bash this afternoon for about an hour. I had a lot of things to get done today, but I wanted to meet everyone. Rookie 48, Roo-B-QN, Bride of Roo, BBQ Council, Shotgun BBQ, Pat and Pyle's BBQ were all there. Everyone was very nice and it was great to put names with faces. I think everyone was wishing that you and your family could have been there. I can't speak for everyone, but I hope today went ok for you, your family and your friends family.

I left before they were getting ready to eat, but from what Ray, Pat and Roo-B-QN were cooking they should be eating well tonight. From what I saw, it looks like brisket, turkey, chuckie and pork butt were probably on the menu.

Pat's wife was taking pictures so I'm sure they'll be getting posted soon.

Look forward to hearing more from the guys. :-D

NOTICE: REMEMBER THE MOTTO... What happens at Timberline STAYS at Timberline..

Great to meet you all, look forward to running into you all again soon here and in person. And I must retract an earlier statement, Tom backed the trailer down the hill into our driveway in one try, I admit I was skeptical and impressed all in those 50 yards....

Back to reality all....and happy digesting the rest of the weekend (burp....BBQ Council mod)

PS Pat, Christy had to only camera out there so any visual incrimination will be on your back..

Sorry, Pat, the peppers is all gone! It was great finally meeting everyone face to face & I don't know when I'll be hungry again:-D. Good times, great food & even better people! If there had been better weather then it would have been even "perfecter" than it was.
As was said before, Roo's new trailer is totally tubular. The SoDT & Tawny want me to tell y'all that they really enjoyed themselves, also.

Hey, that's my line!

Wish I could have made it y'all.
Instead I took my boys to our last wrestling tournament of the year.
Not to hijack the thread, but my 10 year old took 4th in his bracket (I was so proud of the perfectly executed hip throw he used in the last 20 seconds of his second match to break a 2-2 tie and won 7-2). One of my eight year olds finished third in his bracket. He wrestled very hard all day.
Keep in mind that all of the kids at this tournament had to have won a tournament earlier in the season. So my guys distinguished themselves quite well I thought.

I did grill hamburgers last night over hickory coals, in you guys honor!

Nice to meet everybody this weekend. Some old faces....eh..Tom :-P and new faces.
But seriously, it is always good to see Tom and Char. Nice set up you got going, hopefully you can get the microwave tuned in better..
Rookie48 pawned his g-daughter Tawny off on my daughter Winter. They hit off very fast and had a great time.

I'm glad that Watertower, Bryan and Mike(thenewguy) could come out and say hi. Wish they could have stayed, we had plenty of food.

I talked with the owner Saturday night. He is interested in getting a competition going at this campground.
I'll post more about it as I hear more.

Can't wait to see some of those pictures that Pat and Christy took.
