Wyatt I have enjoyed grilled pork chops for many years. And those young man look as good as any. And apple sauce does go well with chops. I prefer to put a pot of cabbage on the smoker with just enough water to cook them without letting it dry out. Then as the first couple of chops get done. Throw a few in the pot of cabbage. this will help give the cabbage a awesome flavor. I salt and pepper mine like crazy, just my taste. I use the pepper mill grade of pepper. Its not all powder and makes a pretty picture. But it is still just black pepper. Listen to your Dad, what he is teaching you now is important. You'll always remember these times with your Dad, and that young man is the best part of it all. You keep on cooking and don't forget to always be willing to try new things. That's a big part of learning. You don't have to like everything you try, the point is you were willing to try. And if all you learn from trying is that you didn't like it. You learned something, and that is my point. I'm going to go eat another burger now, looking at those chops have made me hungry again. Keep on cooking Wyatt and let Dad help ever now and then so he don't feel left out.

Is your Dad letting you help him with that as well. I worked with my father when I was young doing carpentry. I at first was the gopher. But I paid close attention to what was going on. I got to where I would have the tool my father was going to ask for waiting already before he ask. As I got older I moved up to staining the houses we built and doing the stucco on the brick work. That was before vinyl. If you ever stain a house do the front first. If you run out of stain and have to mix more you will never match it. Thank goodness the buyers ended up painting it. Look a little weird with two shades of stain on the front. And when I was a little older I moved up to the saw man position. Dad would shout out measurements and I did the cutting. What I am trying to say Little Brother. As I got older and learned I got to do more. I was ever so proud when my Dad would add a task that I hadn't got to do before. To me it meant he knew I could do the job. It felt good to know Dad was proud of me and trusted me to get it done. I can tell from reading your Dads post, he is very proud of you. Talk him in to a Brethren Journal, that way you can keep notes of your cooks and things.

Cooking with your dad is the most awesome thing. I cook with my son Justin. He has his own kettle. Just today he said I could use it to smoke the turkey breast in the fridge. Learning to cook now may keep you from cooking cases of ramen noodles in college. Hmm that sounds familiar but I cant remember why I was saving money or was I....

I think the saving money was to go to the local watering hole. I don't want to hijack this thread. I like to see more pics of this up in coming contest threat..:rolleyes:

Actually I was talking about me and my roomate:biggrin: We were getting paid every two weeks and couldn't cook anything so we stocked up on eggs and tomato soup so we could just boil it and ate it every meal for two weeks. Took a long time before I could look at tomato soup again.:icon_smil

Wow. That is AWESOME! You are one lucky fella there to get that grill.

I got to be in charge of my dad's cooking pit when I was about your age or ten. It was a permanently installed pit built out of stone, but I was the wood gatherer, the fire builder, the chef and, of course, the cleaner of that pit. It was a huge amount of fun to learn all about cooking on it. And, yes, one of the things I cooked was pork chops - just like you!

Now a days it's under water since they built a lake in our valley. But I still have fond memories of being out there with my dad working on cooking up some great meat.

Now it's your turn to have some fun and get some good memories of your dad.

Congratulations on your cooking!
