I don't care for Royal Oak charcoal. It doesn't burn as well as Kingsford, in my opinion.

And I don't care for Kingsford, burns up too quick in my opinion.:-D
I'll check my Lowes, they are the only ones I can find that still have 20# bags of Royal Oak. Everyone else's are 18#.

I have to agree with you the Kingsford works better for me to.

If you all want a really good charcoal step up to Wicked Good. I know it is priced higher than most but in this case you get what you pay for. Just my 2 cents.

IF they have any left & IF the clerk you're talking to even knows (or cares) what you're talking about. Des Moines' south-side store is out (I think).

I went looking for the rancher. My HDs didn't have any and acted like they never heard of it.

You lucky dog. I looked all over my store but they wouldn't let me in the back.

It really makes no difference to me what type of charcoal I use in my stumps smoker. They all have pros and cons. Lately I have been using Rancher and it has treated me well.
I do prefer to use lump in my komodo though. I also recently started using an ECB for my chicken in competition and have been using lump in that as well. I can get a good 6 hour smoke on one load. I haven't even tried briquettes in it since it won me a little cash at West using lump, I will leave well enough alone.

Roal oak, Rancher mix? Hybrid maybe?
I did a cook in the Weber kettle with about 50% RO lump and 50% Rancher. I really liked the way it cooked.
