What did you make the deck out of? Is it "treated" wood? I've been thinking about what to do with "my" area of the backyard and I'm thinking a deck of some type, but might do pavers.

How does the drippings effect the wood?

trp, from what I have read, you may not have a choice. They are not making treated wood anymore. Once current stocks are gone, they are gone.

Hmmm...
I just finished a remodel on my house and code for some of the bracing and beams under the house called for "treated" lumber.

I was also thinking about "fake" wood for the decking on the bbq area, but I think it might melt if something really hot is dropped on it. Deep down inside I think cement/concrete would be the best bet.

It is treated 2x6 with treated decking. holding up well. Dripping is minimal. would like to cover all the grass area in pavers or pea stone. Scott

PS, 8x8 deck. S

That's a nice area. It'll be nice in the bad weather.

That may be a misnomer. The current supply of CCA ( Cromium, Copper and Arsenic) is being replaced by a new treat called ACQ, which is more environmentally friendly. At least that is what was done last time I was in the Cooling tower business. Pressure treated wood will have to continue since the tree huggers have already taken away viable options like Redwood.

Looks good Yak. Do you leave that canopie up all the time? How does it hold up to a strong thunder storm? I've been thinking about getting one of those 10 X 20 shelters for my pit area but I'm afraid it would end up in the neighbors' living room.

Handles storms fine, not going to leave it up over winter...may put FG panels on it over winter for protection. I have it secured to the ground though. Scott
