Drove to Denton and picked up a SS grate for my large egg. This thing seems twice as heavy as my factory grate. And I was introduced to some other eggcessories to add to my want list. Thanks to Thirdeye for Tom's contact info.

Does he make them for other cookers? I'd love to have stainless grates for my WSMs,

Weber now makes hinged, stainless steel grates for their 22.5 and 18.5-inch kettles.
The 18.5-inch is reported to fit the upper WSM grate holder.
Here are Weber links to the SS grates:

The ones he has are 18.25" grates. If I recall right, he contracted the same company that make Weber grates to make these. So this is the only size available. And I think they are twice as thick as Weber's ss grates.
Here's some specs from Thirdeye:
This is the 18" grate. It will be 1/4" for the rim and supports and 3/16" for the other rods.

Are you going to modify it with the hole in the middle to add wood chips, like thirdeye did?

Thinking of it. I may try just cutting just one the center bars. If not big enough, then I'll consider a second. I've been splitting my chunks to fit between the grates.

You have to be careful when matching other grates to Weber sizes. Weber ties their grates to the diameter of the cooker, instead of using actual grate sizes. The Weber grates I have bought that were labeled 18" were only 17-3/8". Tom's BGE grates that Ty mentioned are 18-1/8 outside to outside.
This is not a big deal if you buy a Weber grate to use on a BGE because there is enough lip to support it. But a BGE grate will not work on a Weber. A Weber grate will also be too small for some of the other Eggessories, OEM and custom made ones.
