The debates never end
blondes - brunettes - redheads
Chevy - Dodge - Ford
horizonal offset - vertical
Spicewine - Backwoods - Lang - Klose
lump - briquettes - stick - pellets

As men (no offense to the females here), we know they're all hot, but now for your mid summer holiday enjoyment it's time to cool down, the question is what brand of cooler do you prefer:

Coolers with wheels.
2 Smaller coolers instead of one large.

Getting to old to do the heavy lifting.

I asked because I noticed 5 of my 6 coolers are Igloo. (60 qt cube with wheels, 54 qt, 2- 40 qt, and a 12 packer) But my old Coleman Oscar is da bomb. It holds 18 beers and keeps ice for days even while boating in the middle of summer. And it serves as a great chair where ever I take it. It's been a trusted friend since my college days.

Coleman....but I don't knock anybody's choice of cooler as long as they have cold beer in them that I can get to!

I use both Coleman, Igloo and Thermos. By big ones are Coleman and I've got several 50 and 70 quart coolers from the other guys. I'm not brand centric so a lot comes down to price, what capacity I'm shopping for at the time, and replacement parts like hinges and latches.

I have a few cube coolers that are from Igloo and a 100 Quart one from Costco. I'm not sure what brand that one is.

coleman xtreme 5 day (although they have a 7 day now) is a real good one.

just don't ever buy the rubbermaid that has a two sided lid - I hate that sucker I got so bad we are gonna pick out a lucky recipient tomorrow at our big feed and give it away and replace it with another coleman x.

I voted Coleman 'cause out of the 17 or so coolers we got around here, I think I have 1 more Coleman than Igloo...

Another vote for the Igloo Max Cold and Igloo Marine models.... they hold ice forever, and take a good licking and keep on ticking (timex mod)

Yeah - those are bad. Not even good for storing beers. The sloping sides make even that essential cooler function less fun. They are cheap - but here's a case of 'you get whatcha pay for' without a doubt.

I think most of mine are the Coleman brand, but I'm like Chad and not really Brand centric. I do love the old Metal Coleman that my parents had before I was born and passed on to me. That thing will keep ice and food cold for DAYS>>>>>>>>. The newer all plastic models just don't even come close to that little unit.

Igloo 5 day or MaxCold. Awesome coolers.

I'm looking at buying a cooler for comps. I have read about buying two smaller coolers instead of the big 120 quart ones. I like this way of thinking.

Thinking about buying this (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4994240) one.

My question is, can you get ribs and all the meat you need for a comp in a 60 quart? Will the ribs fit?

I like the non mammoth size for comps too. We've been using a wheeled Igloo 60 qt cube for beer, beverage, snacks, etc. Pack a wheeled Rubbermaid 60 qt with meat with lots of ice. A Coleman Oscar for the injections, brines, sauces, etc. We also pack dry goods in another 54 qt Igloo legend that I line with a blanket to use as a holder for the pork and brisket.

Yes, ribs would probably even fit in a standard 40 qt size (rectangle - not cube)

Did not vote. I have no prefrence as long and what needs to stay cold stays cold and what needs to stay hot stays hot.

I have a coleman, igloo, and a rubermaid, Each is a different size and serves a different purpose.

To be honest, I haven't really used enough different brands to know. I only learned about how to really use a cooler since joining this forum. I have to purchase for my set up so sound off, don't mind spending for quality, last longer.

How to really use a cooler?

I thought warm beer went on the bottom (if you were unfortunate enough to be in that undesirable situation), then cold beer, then ice.

Great cooler...I got mine at BJ's for 59.00 and that's a deal! (the big white marine cooler)

Not really a brand man so I didn't vote. I just like to have 3 or 4 medium sizes available instead of the jumbo models. The big ones are just to farking heavy when they are full of beverages and ice and I like to be able to seperate soft drinks from beer so I don't have little kids fanning the lid all day melting the ice off my brewskis:roll: .

Not brand concsious either, but mine just happen to be the max cold ones.

I agree with this, except I would say that makes me brand conscious. The Igloo Max Colds (specifically the ones they make to LOOK like the real marine grade coolers) represent the best value to me. They are cheap, and legitimately can hold ice 5 days.

Hate my Coleman. Crappy hinges. Borrowed sisters igloo and it actually has a hinge not a piece of plastic that is bent.

My very first Igloo had the plastic that bent on the back for hinges ... yeah, they're broke. I now use it to hold all my car wash materials.

When you buy the maxicold's new (as well as the actual marine grade ones I believe), they come with durable two piece hinges ......

When those durable two piece hinges break (and they do), you have two options:
- Find a metal hinge at Ace that matches close. It works.
- Buy replacement hinges from igloo.

(ALL the replacement hinges I have seen from igloo now are the one piece bent plastic. They fit perfect. I bet the m new maxicolds will start having them as well. In any case, I don't mind paying 3 bucks a pair every few years to refurbish what is otherwise a FANTASTIC cooler. For the record, you can buy replacement handles, hinges, snaps closures, drain spigots, lid straps, etc etc etc)

I'm not doggin Igloo, the one with broken hinges is old. It's the one that has the cube cut lid thats that same color as the rest of the cooler.

Igloo must be my brand of choice by looking through my garage (4 of them 40 qt or larger). I took the 60 qt marine grade cube down the the lake Friday morning packed with beer and ice. We used this cooler on the dock and in the boat (often in the sun - 90* plus) three days. Before returning home yesterday afternoon I dumped the same ice out that I put in on Friday. I only wish the beer would have lasted as long as the ice.

You can get most replacement Igloo cooler parts from Academy here in TX. Icould be wrong about them being Igloo parts, but they have replacement parts..

I prefer the Coleman Extreme 5-Day coolers over the Igloo max colds. They are the only ones that seem to hold up to the desert heat when it climbs over 100F. I can actually get 3-4 days out of them during the hot summer months as long as I keep them out of direct sunlight.

Igloo Marine Grade = Cat's Ass

I had an old green metal sided Coleman that lasted me for years. I bought it new around 1980. Finally rusted out. (no chit) So when retired it, I naturally bought a new Coleman. Of course the new ones are plastic. (This was before they came out with the $100 Stainless Steel model) The plastic Colemans are junk. I'd use one for coolering BBQ but not for keeping anything cool any length of time.
