Cooked 30 butts, 20 brisket and 3 cases of rib tips for a local car cruise and blues fest on Saturday. I now have 16 butts and 12 brisket in the freezer. The only people that made money were my helpers. They each got $10 an hour - not their fault that the attendance was way off. It was 95 degress with 90% humidity.
Oh well - live and learn.

Oh man...
Well, since those will reheat nicely, you've got a leg up on your next gig!

Sorry to hear about your weekend. I had my first ever vending gig this weekend and the reaction from folks was beyond anything I could have ever imagined! I am hooked - I am sure that I will have my share of horror stories the more I do this, but what a great entry. Here's to better luck for you next time!

Wow sorry to hear that jbrink.
Guess thats why I dont have any desire to do any catering gigs.
Hopefully you can use up that meat and recoup your initial costs and make a nice profit in the very near future.

we do very well catering, as well as vending at a friends conveneince store. This was a new event and may well be our last attempt at it. We did an artfair and winefest in the same location earlier this year and sold $9,000 in 2.5 days, so it's all good.

sorry to hear about your loss. listen to this misadventure. in years past i have sold ribs at the NH motorcycle week rally and have made in the neighborhood of 15k-35K for the ten day event, based on the weather. so at the end of the event this year (it ended yesterday) i made a whopping $895. now i just need to figure out how to get back to PA from NH.

Summer in St. Louis, ya gotta love it. I thought I was going to melt this weekend.
We got spoiled last summer I think.

than to go out in the heat. During the summer months we usually set up at my buddy's convenience store and sell about $1800 - $2000 b4 2:00pm on Saturdays. Easy little 6 - 8 hours deal. Next week I'm sticking to what works.

Yeah concessions is a shot in the dark you never know even when the weather is good sometimes the crowd wants what you don't have. Catering on the other hand is prearranged and you and the customer are committed, you will feed and get paid.
One time I got froze out but had coffee and hot spiced cider, you cannot believe how much cider I sold.

These vending/catering stories are always interesting. I think a lot of us here would take a stab at an event like this if we ever had the chance. I guess you never really know how it's going to turn out until you try.

Sorry to hear about the less than stellar attendance. Feel free to get some dry ice, a cooler, and my address and I'll help you get rid of some of the leftovers. :-D
