What is a better deal, the Rancher at Home Depot, or the Kingsford at Lowes?

Rancher, we used it all weekend long and burns cleaner and longer than Kingsford, IMHO. I did the ultimate taste with it Saturday with a seafood cook (salmon, clams, shrimp , corn and crab). Seafood is like a sponge, if the charcoal ain't clean you will know it.

I used Rancher today and noticed that it burned a heck of a lot longer than K. Less ash it seems too. I vote for R.

I went to make sure they had plenty of Rancher at our HD. Had one full pallet by the front door and about a half of a pallet back with the grills. I am taking the trailer over tomorrow and getting 20 bags. Just can't pass is up at $2.99.

I thought today was the last day for the sale?

This thread might get good!

They said it is on sale here until the 30th. Not sure about other areas.

Hey Mista, I seem to remember a previous thread where you said that it may be no good for smoking. I seem to remember you saying that you had trouble getting it up to temp. I was actually about to go buy some until I saw that...

So, why the change of heart?

Anybody else have problems getting up to temp and maintaining it with Rancher?

Thanks!!

I used R for long cooks today in two cookers. Worked fine for a coal base for both. I use sticks for my primary heat, charcoal for a coal base. Served my purpose very well.

I'm thinking it might be a wind problem. I had the same problem at 29 palms when I was using lump. It worked well out at Big Brother Smoke's house.

My vote is for the Rancher. I've used it the last two weekends and I love it. At $3 a bag I don't think it can be beat. I'm starting to wonder if the 21 bags I bought is enough!:-D

My stock in Weber went down, but my holdings of Rancher are going up!
Sold 3 Weber kettles and a Genesis gas grill and picked up a used WSM last week and still had money for 20 more bags of briqs.

Used Rancher this weekend, started with about 9 lbs in my BWS Party. Lit it at 1 AM didn't need to refule until after 11 AM & I had about another 1 - 2 hours left with what was in the fire box. It does produce way more ash than Royal Oak Lump, but for 2.99/bag I'm going to see if it is still on sale today because the 17 bags I have in my garage just doesn't seem to be enough 8-)

Hey Popa Hogg-
How did you set up to get 10+ hour burn on your BWS Party. I have the Party w/upgrades and Guru and burn Rancher & I got a 4+ hours. Please let me in on the secret. I was able to maintain 250 and it only started to spike after the water ran dry.

I saw it in the HD add this last Sunday, but I didn't pay attention to the date the sale ends. Sale or not I'm going to try it out. Really disappointed with the new "K" this past weekend.
