I've been doing a lot of looking at people and how they create rubs, slathers, sauces, and glazes. And I was wondering what your process was for creating a new invention.
What I like to do is gather as many recipes I can for the same subject. Say Brisket Rub. Then I put all of the quantities and ingredients in a spreadsheet so i can compare next to each other and see what's different. From those I put together the one that seems to make sense.
I get the recipes from cook books, food network, websites, and sometimes from you guys. I don't think it's plagerism but I'm not sure who should get credit for the base.
My jambalaya recipe was a combination of 5 different recipes from cooking to the spice mixes. Then one day I was on Foodnetwork.com and found one that was almost identical to my recipe but was a five star restaurant's in New Orleans.
What do you guys think?
