Congrats to all Brethren members!!! What a great first experience for us in KC. Were amazed to get a 3rd in chicken (tied for 1st) and a 4th in ribs (tied for 3rd) in the invitational. Have a feeling we didn't do too well in the open. Either way, it was great to get the KC BBQ experience and meet alot of great people!

Thanks to all the Brethren for a great time though! Next GAB should be in a dome, with GREAT ventilation! My feet and back hurt so farkin bad, I really need to get unloaded, but the couch feels too darn good!

Congrats to the HoDeDoes on their 1st place chicken, but did anyone notice who was right in there behind them in 2nd place?? Young Slammin' Sammy of Chick 'N' Pig is cooking with the big guys and doing a fine job competing! That's a 1st and a 2nd that I know of so far this year. WTG Sammy! You know all of us central Missouri cookers are proud as heck for ya! And Denise got a 1st in vegatables! The whole family can cook!

Plowboys sucked azz this weekend. 58th in Pork was the only good showing. We knew it would be lower than it should have been because our presentation was awful. We were running out of time and basically tossed it in the box at the last minute. Was proud of the product.

Thought our chicken was really good. Same exact chicken I made in Platte City, but the score was 16 points lower. Go figure. Chicken finished two spots above Twin Oaks.

Just got off the phone with Randy. Despite our lack luster showing, we had a great time this weekend. There were just too many people that we wanted to talk to, but enjoyed the company of those that we did get to see.

Team Q - Thanks for the sauce and letting me "cry on your shoulder" Sunday morning. You guys are a 100% class act.

Thanks everyone. It was a great weekend for the brethern teams, especially when you think of how many and how many heavy hitters there were this weekend. Congrats to all that were there and turned in their "Good Stuff".

With a contest like the open you could turn in the best stuff you ever cook and still finish in the pack. Now you can't turn in bad stuff, like our brisket for the open (132nd place)!!

Great job to all of you guys...

We had a fantastic time. Is it just me, or did anyone else take a look at your invite scores and your open scores and think "If I could only have had that chicken score, combined with this rib score, etc."

Damn...Chris and I were a little intimidated at first, this being our first try in an invite - but it quickly wore off we just started cooking like normal.

Our results:
Invite:
CK: 23
RB: 12
PK: 1
BR: 45 (right there with you, Great Grills - ouch is right!)

Open:
CK: 136 (that stings...)
RB: 5
PK: 4
BR: 50

Did anyone else think the boxes were a little different? They seemed smaller...or not as deep...or something - not sure what.

Didn't realize (or remember) that you were a Brethren member. Congrats! Really nice job!!!

The boxes sucked. Very shallow and slopped in. I had heard from some Invitational teams that not everyone got the same boxes. They used up last year's boxes and then went to new boxes which were different.

There were 2 different size boxes. The old boxes---9 inch, the new boxes---8 inch. Some got 8 inch some got the 9's. The organizers and Reps. were questioned at the invitational cook's meeting and the Reps said that if the people with the 9 inch boxes wanted to return them for 8's they could---------YA RIGHT---- like that's going to happen.

Jay, Thanks for taking up for Samuel.

For those of that don't know. Samuel preps, rubs, cooks, and sauces his/our chicken. I do help with getting the fire just right and I give him my full attention and getting him whatever he needs. Just like all of us do for the rest of our team turn ins. I am proud as hell of him as most of you know.

Denise and I are so grateful to all of you for making him feel special and welcome. You all are great role models for him ( ok some of you are Ha! HA! ) and we are proud of you for that. Thanks Brothers and Sisters!!!

On another note it has been sugested that we change our sign to read

Neil, I'm sorry... I guess I didn't realize you were here on the Brethren site. I should have stopped in to say hello! Sorry 'bout that. Maybe next time!

So let's see... Brethren teams finished 5th, 8th, 11th and 12th out of the top 15 called in the open and 4th, 5th and 11th in the top 15 for the invitational... GREAT weekend!

Tuffy from Cool Smoke is a great guy and fantastic cooker. He started getting real hot at the end of last year and it carried onto this year. Won GC at Dover, DE at the end of last year, Salisbury, MD this year, and I believe at least another one or so down south...

Isn't 9" the standard size for all KCBS sanctioned contests ???

I dont know but trying to fit whole chicken in that box was a pain. I want the score sheets to see what killed me in chicken. I dont know how it could be that bad unless something was under cooked. Which I checked. On a worse not the rain made it way into my thermapen and fryed it.

I have left mine out several times and had this happen. Let it sit for a couple days in a warm dry place and it will work again (at least both of mine have).
