Ladies and Gentlemen,

Check your emails! The applications for this years Rock'n Ribfest may be sitting in your in-box. This is a very nice contest on the grounds of Anhueser-Busch in Merrimach, NH. Anyone going this year besides us?

We look forward to meeting you. It should be alot of fun. Last year we didn't make it. We were on our way to the contest and lost the axel on our Lang Cooker just before turning north onto 91 from 95 in the pouring rain at 2:00 AM on Saturday morning. We had to leave Friday night because my brother and co-cooker had to work Friday. It was 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday before we got the trailer moved and fixed. We called Roland and told him we were gonna bag it because we were all soaked and tired. I guess it was pretty wet up there also.

Pretty wet is a mild understatement. The entire contest site was ankle deep mud, except for the places where it was knee deep. But it was a great time, especially because we won the thing.

We considered the East Hartford event the same weekend because it is so close to our home, but I have seen no information on it yet and don't want to risk not getting into NH if the CT one doesn't happen.

Looking forward to meeting the Polacks! I want to get a good look at that new trailer, it looks really cool.

Sent in my application this morning. I'm mainly going for the beer and to watch Ted repeat.

Speaking of mud, has anyone tried using industrial rubber floor mats in their cooking areas? Wondering if they would help at all in sever mud conditions. May make more of a mess than it's worth.

Last year we brought an indoor/outdoor carpet, it worked GREAT! It was still a muddy mess but the carpet made it little better.

I would think they would sink into the mud and be a biotch to get out. I would use some old pallets and outdoor carpet.

lunchmeat will definitely be in Merrimac. I was wondering where you were Guy...was (and am) looking forward to meeting the Polocks. Sorry about the Lang, I hadn't heard what happened. I love yer boots Mike...we used Ziploc bags on the kids' feet, and then when the grown-ups were down to one pair of shoes left, we used the BIGGER Ziplocs. That worked, and that is all you can ask for I guess... Somewhat dry feet and a belly full of lobstah-stuffed prime rib...THANK YOU SULLY!

We'll see you there in June!

I saw in the information packet that they "suggest" contestants arrive between 12-3pm on Friday but the contest is on Saturday.

Was there much to do up there or see last year? I'm considering bringing the family for a long weekend getaway.

Well, it is being held at an Anheuser Busch brewery, and they do have tours, clydesdales, etc. That could occupy you on Friday. Saturday is grilling and Sunday is KCBS, so that will keep you pretty busy the rest of the weekend.

I also wanted to tell anyone who hasn't been there that Merrimac is a GREAT event for the family, although it might cost ya to get 'em in! I have brought my kids (now 8 and 10) for the past three years. Tons of stuff to do...bands, vendors -food and merchandise-, beer, and an entire kids section. (no motorized rides - mostly bouncy stuff and rock wall) best for smaller kids.
see ya there!

A couple of last minute signups has forced me into adding a sixth table of judges. The location is the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Merrimack . The contest is this weekend, 6/23 and 6/24. There is a grilling contest on Saturday and a KCBS BBQ contest on Sunday. Due to the short notice, Iím a bit desperate and will accept any serious BBQ lover as a judge. You do not need to be a CBJ. You can signup for either or both days. Email me directly, not this list.

Thanks if you can help out.

Lo' -N- Slo' BBQ wants to say, "THANK YOU" for the warm welcome we received from everyone in NH. Congrats to everyone on the call ups for both days. We had an excellent time and are still in shock about the GC in Grilling (if you remember we were not going to enter grilling until members of the Brethren incouraged us to do so). We look forward to next year and hope to see everyone again soon. Rock 'N Ribfest was well worth the 12 hour, 600 mile round trip.
THANKS AGAIN.....

That was darn impressive to see Saturday. Seemed like every call was a Brethren member! And it was amazing to see the Polocks win twice on Sunday after another rough ride up to NH. Congrats to everyone again.

Man, we are snake bitten with with respect to trailers! It seems like everytime we hook our truck up to a trailer something hapens. It was scary having a blowout on the trailer while doing 60 miles and hour. Honestly, it was one of the best venues we have ever cooked at. It was well run, the venue was nice (it was killing us smelling the fresh wort), the comradrie was even better and having a couple calls wasn't bad either. We really enjoyed meeting alot of the brethren we don't normally see. It's all about the great people in BBQ. The best folks in the world. Congrats to all on a super brethren showing.

So any other rituals that us Midwesterners need to know about before cooking in NEBS? Besides that I am required to carry 2 bottles of Patron with me? ;-)

Do you guys get tornados? Cause after the weather we had at Marshalltown, I want to be getting out of the Midwest...

Could you have left an "eye" in the pineapple by mistake when you removed the skin? Sounds like it musta been something that really turned the judge off like biting into something unexpected and tough like that.

I have to say...Sully IS a trip... but you can't have him. We can't live with out him! Just wait til the segment on the news...yep...they recorded him for posterity. I am not sure, but if anyone is in the Concord NH area and sees it...PLEASE let us know!

Congratulations to Lo and Slo...great GC in a grilling you didnt want to do! See how it can get ya?

We sort of played the middle this weekend... no calls, but didn't end up too poorly overall. That was only our third BBQ contest, so we were happy with the results...

Hopefully the lotta bull class next weekend fixes my issues with chicken. (mostly that I ahve no idea what I'm aiming for)

Jim, what team are you with?

Jim, what team are you with?

I was judging both days so couldn't fraternize with the cooking teams or enter their cooking sites until after conclusion of judging. That is one of the bad things about judging -- you sure miss out on the fun. On the other hand, getting to see so many different entries and ideas of how to present is worth it every now and then. Not to mention getting to sample such excellent 'cue.

Next time I see you and get the chance I will make a point of saying hello.

Hey, Transformer! Welcome! I had the pleasure of cooking next to you guys all weekend. Hopefully I wasn't responsible for your canopy being destroyed when mine got mangled. I was too busy boxing my fish to see what the heck was going on, just heard lots of screaming. Lost the canopy but got fifth in fish.

Well, I got a lot better look at the banner once your Ez-Up took flight and we had to throw out 300sq. feet of tent between us. Really changed the view. My tent was bending, yours sort of finished it off... no worries, I knew it wasn't gonig to survive the weekend (I figured it would make it more than 2 hours though).

I also saw some professional sleeping in a chair with a lit cigar across the path from us... I figured that knowledge must be a learned talent, and I woudl need to learn it on here.

Lotta Bull class, and then Harpoon (which was out first contest ever last year)... I think we may do Lowell, not sure if it will be as judges or as a team...
