Hello and best wishes to all in the BBQ Brethren. I've been reading the Brethren in my yahoo groups for some time now. I'm unsure of my capabilities of adding anything of substance to this think tank other than maybe a few recipies.
I'm quite sure however that I can learn much from all of you.

Quick history: I've been grilling for many years, but have recently purchased a char broil smoker. I've been using a mix of charcoal and Mesquite chunks(purchased from wal-mart) with good-excellent results.

I'm looking for Mesquite logs to cook with, but its damn hard to find here in So Cal. Anyone have any ideas?

Welcome SFS,

Not sure what part of So Cal you are in, but when I lived down there, I would hit the firewood place on Rosecrans Ave just east of the 405 in Hawthorne. There are also a few places in Pasadena off the 210 and Sierra Madre.

They all have a variety of wood, but I don't specifically recall them having Mesquite.

Hey Frog, I'm originally from Galveston Texas. In fact I was just there visiting family last month.
Every April I go back there to help my family in the Cookoff at the Galveston County Fair grounds. Ever heard of it? We're the "Cookin Truckers". Anyways, I mostly do grunt work and drink beer. Oh yeah, lots of eatin too!

Welcome

I find Mesquite to be too over powering. on anything other
then maybe brisket.. Your in Cal have you ever used grape vines??
I want to try them have had a few people promise me but never have
come thru. Try other woods also I love fruit woods for Q I'm going to
eat.. Welcome to the Brethren I'm still a newbee and been having a
ball.. The BBQ comunity is the best..

Sully

P.S. How about using one of the Big Red woods you have out there
in Califorina... I sure won't tell any of the Peta tree Huggers..
