I wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I am new to competition BBQ but have been reading as much as possible on this site. Been smoking and grilling in my back yard for years now and am now trying to get into the competitive side.

Just wanted to say hi and thanks for having me aboard.

Depends on what type of food you like. I might get slammed here, but good BBQ is hard to find in Houston (My standards are high as i was raised in Kansas CIty and great BBQ breeds up there). You have the normal "Chain" type BBQ joints but thats not good bbq to me. Rod Grey told me that Ronnie Killen's bbq and steak restaurant are very good. So coming from Rod, that is a definite must try for me. There is better BBQ toward Austin and the hill country believe it or not.

As far as other foods are concerned:
Steakhouses=Perry's is one of my top 2 or 3 steakhouses i have ever eaten at in the world, and i eat a lot of steak. They have a location off of I10 and one up north toward cypress off of 249 (My favorite location…..sit in the bar area and listen to the guy play the piano…..pretty cool). HIGHLY recommend this place.

Then there are some good places like PF Changs thats always good, Harris county smokehouse is decent (See my above rant about not having great BBQ in H-town) several great sushi restaurants, and most people like Pappadeaus for fish/cajun (Even though its not anywhere near cajun food but still a good place to eat).
