Hi all

I came to your forum by way of a google search on how to start a BBQ business.

It has been a great resource thus far.

My background is IT (15 years) and like everyone pretty much in IT I am looking to do something else.

I have dreamed of opening a restaurant since 2004 and came close on a couple of occasions but have never quite taken the plunge.

I really enjoy BBQ on the rare occasions I have had it as until recently it was not readily available in Australia and my experience has been limited to pulled pork.

I have been toying with opening a Burger Shop for around a year as we in a boom of American burger shops here in Melbourne, Australia but I just think there is too many. I have recently returned from the US and my desire to open a US style restaurant here in Australia is even stronger. Americana is the flavour of the month here with bagel shops and BBQ joints opening by the month but I think there is room.

But I have a lot to learn which is why I am here.

I think the best way of learning is by doing so I am strongly considering returning to the US to maybe work in a BBQ restaurant. So if anyone would like to teach me about BBQ in return for some free work - I cannot legally work for payment in the US - please let me know.
