Katz Deli, and get a pastrami on rye. (this is a must)
Old Homestead Steak House
Wolfgangs Steak House
Iron Chef Morimoto has a great restaurant, Actually i think they all do, Myron has a BBQ joint in the city, Gordon Ramsey has some restaurants, basically choose your favorite chef(s) and go to their restaurants.

if you decide you want to hit the non-tourist stuff, there's an italian joint on the upper west side called Bellini. It's on 83rd and columbus, an easy walk from the train. Lobster ravioli with pink sauce will change your lifei.

Brick Lane Curry House is good, the ShakeShack and like someone said before Old Homestead Steakhouse. Go to Homestead for lunch and get the three mini burgers, one Chuck, one Mignon and one Kobe, comes with homemade tots and your choice of beer or wine.

I might be the minority, but I think there is no reason to get BBQ in NY. I like the Strip house or Wollinskys grill for steak. You can also try to get into Peter Lugers in Brooklyn, need a reservation. Just a cool place to say you been to. There is a Shake Shack in Grand Central Station that is cool to go to, because Grand Central Station is an awesome place to just see. I would say for Pizza, take a cab over to brooklyn for L&B Spumoni Gardens. Its brick oven pizza.
