My sister and BIL are out in Chicago in McCormick Place and are looking for some good restaurant suggestions... Looking for a nice place or two to have dinner. Not BBQ, no raw fish.

Thanks Guys and Gals!

There isn't a lot in the McCormick Place area. Where are they staying? Any favorite cuisines? How about budget? Their best bet is to take a cab towards the Loop. Tons of places there.

They are staying in a hotel adjacent to McCormick place. They are in town till Tuesday.
Good Italian, American, nothing too exotic/ethnic. Of course, that is different for everyone.
I'm not going to say price is no object, but it's not going to be the deciding factor. Looking for good food and a nice experience.
Neither drinks, so a great wine list isn't a factor either.

OK...

I haven't been to McCormick Place in years, so maybe one of the guys who are more familiar with that area knows of restaurants closer, but here are some of my favorites in the downtown area...

Gene and Georgetti (http://geneandgeorgetti.com/) - High end steakhouse, one of the oldest in Chicago.

Italian Village (http://www.italianvillage-chicago.com) - There are better Italian restaurants but Italian Village is the oldest and has an old world feel that is hard to beat.

Heaven on Seven (http://www.heavenonseven.com/index.html) - Great cajun food. The Wabash location is closest to McCormick Place

Lou Malnati's (http://www.loumalnatis.com/) - One of the classic Chicago deep dish pizza places. Tell them to order the Chicago Classic. The South Loop location is close to McCormick Place.

If they want more, or a specific cuisine, let me know.

You did NOT just do that. Other than G&G, you are getting the LTH :nono:

Taylor Street, Pilsen, and South Loop recs in a PM, can't cross promote another forum :)

Do you think I care about the LTH http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/nono.gif? :-D

There's a reason why I don't spend any time there. If it's not their "flavor of the day" it's no good.

BTW, it's OK to mention LTH since it's not a competing forum and would be considered a "forum of authority" for Chicago area food, right or wrong :becky:
