What happened to the other posts? I agree we need to be moderated on occasion, this wasn't one imo. What the heck?

let me level set. Rememeber, this is an experiment and we are formulating as we go. and Goal.
First, we are not moderating for negative reasons.. Once the poll closes, we want the answer to immediatly follow the questions. Joe asked me if there was a way to "insert" the answer, and there is not, so we clean up before posting it.
Here was the Goal.
Joe asks the question, Via Poll.
We want to see what people think, pointing out the general misconceptions
Dont look up the answer to get it right. We WANT to see what our thoughts are and if we are wrong AND how wrong we may be in our thinking(currently).
Then Joe will respond with the right answer from the official sources
Then we begin discussing.
It would have been ideal if we can post a poll, without the ability to respond with a post. After we have a bunch of responses then open the thread to posting in open discussion, but i havent seen a way to do that.
So we cannot post a "poll only".
The reason Joe deletes the chatter once the poll closes (unless it is 100% relevent to the learning experience) is so the answer appears directly under the question. Remeber, this forum was meant to be a "learning experience" in a type of Classroom format. Some can consider it a gameshow.. Ask the question, hget the list of answers, then see how many were right.
I asked him to ALLOW the banter after a poll only because its in out nature to chatter, and to to allow us to ask relevent questions. But then he should clean up before he posts the response. (i meant clean up any banter though, not the OnTopic questions.) It was my idea to delete any banter and oneliners before posting the answer, and then allow the open discussion. I thought this would put the answer directly below the question. Thats not quite working the way i expected.. Please, no one get torqued when we delete the posts. Its NOT being moderated. We want the forum to flow with factual information and then open the discussion.
I do think we(the studdents) should be allowed to open new threads thoughs, ontopic, similar to Kapns Vending thread in Qtalk, or Dakatys manual.
Joe, maybe without talking away from the polling and "classroom", maybe we can make the forum a little more free form. ONTOPIC, but Freeform regarding other questions or threads.
The POLLS and ANSWER posts however can be made a sticky everytime so they remain at the top of the focus.. or we can make a subforum in here that is freeform. You guys just answer the poll, and wait for the answer and open discussion.
Again.. we are EXPERIMENTING... lets get a format that works for us. I really think this is a chance for us to learn somethings. Lets try to make it work without getting in a tizzy becase a post is removed. I hope everyone is ok with this.. if not,
WE ARE open for any other suggestions.

I just looked at some of the deletions. They were explanations of your answers. Only deleted so the real answer is exacly below the question.
I think, If we just answer the polls, without editorial type posts and save those explanations for after the answer is posted, I think it may work better and joe wont have to go deleting and upsetting people. Some of the response were legit, explaining our misconceptions and why we thought the wrong answer. All part of learning..
Just a suggestion.

After the question post, you could make a 2nd post that simply says, answer will appear here, when the poll closes, edit the answer into that post #2 of the thread.

why not have Joe edit his poll question to include the answer after a reasonable period of time? then the question and the answe5r appear together? banter below only for those intersted in continuing to scroll down. Scott

I think it sounds like a great way to handle it..... and again, I thank you both for working on the content and getting the input so we can all learn as we go ..... this is great stuff.
Just glad we did not have to actually see Poobah's bare-ass to get this issue solved.

Im sorry. i did forget to include that.. Joe will close the poll, or post the answer either after a day, or a good sampling of responses. That was discussed early on.. i forgot to mention it.
Where IS Joe today anyway??

Hi Guys, Wednesday is our day off around here. (The one day we close for R&R) So I'm not always to be found.
KC and Yak, Please come to the head of the class so I can paste a gold star on your foreheads. Great ideas. It was so simple. It's almost stupid.
That's what I'll do. I'll edit the question by inserting the answer at the close of the poll.
I'm really sorry, I wasn't trying to offend everyone by deleting posts, as I'm now sure you understand after Phils posts.
I'll even see if I can repair the old threads so that your posts can be read again. There was some very good stuff. You know that hindsight thing....
Thanks all for working with us while this is under construction.
Keep participating!!!!!!
Joe
