Hi everyone,

Trying to take the right steps in starting a bbq business and was wondering if anyone has taken Mike Mills bbq business classes? They look pretty cool, just looking for opinions before dropping the money.

I'm pretty sure that Big Mista's wife took it a couple of years ago. You may want to PM him to confirm.

I agree with Ron, I am pretty sure she took it and loved it, got a lot of good information from it.

I did take the class back in January of 2010, a couple months before we opened. I think for me it was money well spent.

I worked as a commercial banker for 15 years prior to going into business. so I know numbers. but I have never worked in a restaurant before. I came prepared with my working menu ideas, logo and a laundry list questions.

I learned several little things that we use today that just help with the holding quality of our food. I would have figured out several of these things over time, but at what cost??

Where are his classes held and what are the costs?

They typically hold them in Murphysboro, IL, in the warehouse a block from the original 17th street bar and grill.

Cost is around 800 or 900 for the weekend. Includes a coupe meals and a lot of info about the business of BBQ.

Been to his original restaurant and it was mediocre. I don't doubt his knowledge but his restaurant is not a benchmark in my opinion.

Took the Business of BBQ class a couple of years ago. Had a great time and made some friends who I still stay in touch with today. I enjoyed the restaurant operations side of the class, but not the marketing side as much.

Well worth the money IMHO, and I personally like his Q and restaurants.

I live right down the road from where he does the classes. The wife and daughter want to pay for me to go. I looked on his site and it is ... or was $850 for 2 days.

Not sure about his business in Murphysboro, but the one in Marion is decent. I'm not a fan of his sauces though.
