Glad to be a part of the brethren, my Dad turned me on to your site! I've been a BBQ fan all my life and have finally decided to buy a smoker! I need some recommendations in the $400-$600 range, any input?

Welcome! Everyone has an opinion on what kind of smoker. Depends on you and what you plan to do with it. I'm sure WSM, UDS will be recommended. I have an old cheap offset. Best plan is get something, dive in, read, learn and go from there. You can make good BBQ on most anything if you know what your doing. Look around, cook, have fun!

Welcome aboard Greg!
I'm a big fan of my Big Green Egg (which costs more than your budget) and the WSM (Weber Smoky Mountain) which is in your budget. My son recently bought an Akorn & is loving it (also in your budget). And a lotta folks on here love their UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker) that they made themselves.
