After reading some threads here I am confused about the new score sheets...RE: the judges average score:

Is this his/her average score for that one category, lets say chicken or his average of all category scores for the whole day

I was under the assumption it was just for that particular category, but after reading some threads here, I think some people think it is that particular judges overall average across categories...
any info would help

It was explained to me that it was for the day including ALL categories. 4 food groups plus ancillaries.

That's what I was led to believe also.

This is correct with the possible exception that there is reseating or renumbering. I had a contest where table 4 became 41 (maybe a judge had to leave for some reason and a TC took over) and I have had tables renumbered for side categories. Maybe some judges were dismissed and the tables reconfigured or the rep just wanted to get the average score for the 4 meats.

In any case the average will be for everything judged under that seat and table number.

The Rep explaining the new score sheet said the average judgess score is tracked by the KCBS CBJ#.
Maybe one of the Reps or Board members lurking can chime in here.

If the person setting up the contest does it properly, you can select No in the tracking field when you set up the ancillary categories. Plus, you can just NOT put in judge numbers for these categories (as if they are non-cbj's). This way you only have averages for the 4 main categories.

Here is a hyperlink to the email that KCBS recently sent out regarding scores. It explains average score and a few other bits.
