That sucks, Rub. But such is barbecue, you win some, you lose some.

We were in Westmont competing that weekend so I knew how that one was gonna turn out.

Well played though, Rub. I liked your comment at the end of the show about how you thought you didn't win because you didn't give meatloaf enough respect.

Congrats on #7 too!

Thanks guys. Yeah the whole meatloaf thing sucked but we were aware beforehand that it (along with about 30 other cuts and sub-primals) was a possibility. They said it was less than half a point between 1st and 2nd. Should have been practicing my meat grinding skills more...

I could be wrong, but meatloaf is a "mainstream" BBQ dish.
Lots and lots of threads on here about doing it.

Perfectly fair and logical IMHO. 8)

i'd have to agree. think "fatty", how many threads are here about those?

but, i would say, rub, you outclassed the competition IMHO, but sometimes it's hard to overcome that other competitors stroke of brilliance(the bacon weave).

good luck and WTG on your 7th. you did us all proud on TV with both your skill and humility at the end.

My bad, never thought of meatloaf as BBQ. Guess I need to get out more.

That just goes to show anything could happen at a BBQ Comp. My picks before the show last night on whom I wanted in the final battle was as follows in no certain order.
1. Rod Gray
2. Rub
3. Butchers BBQ
and if a 4th was to be added it would be Stumps for me

That's also not to say Shiggin and Grinnin was not on that list at one time.
