Hi; my name's Tim and I have a gas smoker.

OK, now that the embarrassing admission is out of the way, name's Tim and I'm in Niceville, FL. I was looking for some chuck roast recipes and stumbled across the site. Decided I liked the feel of the place and registered.

I've been around BBQ, mostly in an ad hoc manner, for as long as I can remember. Had some exposure to competition in the mid '90s, but nothing to write home about--our team shirts were generally a bigger hit than our meat. I learned more in a couple of hours reading here than over the course of the last 49 years.

First on the agenda is a replacement or Ol' Gassy. It has a certain amount of utility, but limitations abound. I'm intrigued by the UDS, as I can't really justify the cost of one of the well-built rigs for the amount of use I am likely to put it to. Of course, that's subject to change as I learn more. Ideas on selling it to the wife are appreciated.

I spent 26 years in the AF and have been retired for 5 years this month. Some of my other interests include mountain bikes, kayaks, and motorcycles. I'm currently riding a '79 HD FXS, so using heavy tools to bend uncooperative metal to my will is second nature.

Actually, a UDS smokes so well your wife may not need to be sold on upgrading to more capacity once she gets a taste.

Welcome from north Florida. Nothing wrong with a gasser, cooked Q on my vertical gasser for 10 years before building my RF stickburner.
