Hey there boys n girls-

I met Phil while judging at the Grillin On The Bay Competition last week. I told him that I have been a member of the Brethren for about two years. He encouraged me to start posting. This is my first!!

Last year I participated in my first KCBS competition. I brought three 6 foot tables and I am trying to tighten up my work area because I am trying to fit everything in a couple of SUV's. (last year I borrowed a work van). How many tables do you guys bring? What sizes are they? Any other advice?

Thanks,

-Darren

It varies with us - usually 3. One 6-footer for the cleanup station, one 4'-square for prep and presentation, and another 6-footer for holding the cooked meat. A couple of times we've doubled up duties and just used two tables - it was interesting.

I have three six footers... two for seasoning/trimming and prepping, one for supplies, misc. (including the necessary coffee maker!) and the third for the wash tubs (and now my new Coleman HWOD!). I usually take a 4x4 "card table" also for building turn-in boxes.

Well lets see,

Your gonna need ONE table just for your trophies if you keep hanging around here.

Hey Darren, Sorry I didn't get to meet you last weekend. Nice to see you posting. Come join us at our next get together.

I'm not following... how are you guys getting anything else on the same table as your wash station? I have three bus tubs and an area with towels spread out to air dry. Now I'll also have the HWOD there too. I couldn't fit another thing on the wash tub table!

PHil's doing drugs again. The washtubs have their own table. I'm being to wonder if he and I compete on the same team.

I have a couple of 6' folding tables. My wash tubs are on the ground on a mat. They are too big to fit on a table.

Helloooooooo

3 tables in the back room. a "U" shaped kitchen.

The one facing the front of the tent against the wall to the seating area has 3 Wash tubs in the center, the white stack shelves with the spices and seasonings on it are to the far right, and at the far left of the table are the paper goods and where you hang the paper towles. The cooler of water is next to the table.

The table facing the side of the tent is the one on the raised legs and used for all prep.

The one facing the back holds the foil dishes and supplies until turnin time where you clear it off an it becomes Sanitized and all sparkly.

Sound familiar?

Probably the best way to figure out how many tables you want to include in your set-up is to do a contest cook at home and see what works for you.
I did a small contest last year and used all 5 tables I took. 2-8', 2-6' and 1-4'. I could easily have gotten by with less, but I had them and used them.
Everyone draws the line between too much stuff and not enough in a different place.

For three tubs (soap, rinse, sterilize)? That's a farkin big table! Must make things a lot simpler!

I was considering larger ones... danged cutting boards are a pain in 'em.

Tubs are Small bus tubs, Just big enuf to put in a large cutting board. The table is an 8 footer. The tables, once folded dont take much room in the trailer.

Either way, Phil, Rob's comment about beginning to wonder if he's even cooking on the same team as you... that's some funny stuff!

1-Coleman folding camp table for stereo, TV/ DVD Player
1- Small wooden TV tray for 2 Ribbons (6' would be overkill)

2- 6 footers and a stainless 2 x 4' that breaks down for travel. The stainless table is great for prep because it is 48" high instead of 36". This is the standard stainless table ar Sam's for $110. Great item! Woody
