View Full Version : 3 LB Chickens. Too Small For IBCA???

Found a source for smaller birds which I prefer if I'm cooking for myself, but only having done one IBCA, I wondered if that might be too small to make it through all the judging should I make it to final table.

Any thoughts?

Keep in mind that minimum of 5 to 7 people will be taking bites out of that bird. If it goes past preliminary round you want enough meat on there to get good scores. They do not give good scores for bones and or skin. Try just big enough to fit nicely into the tray. Wish IBCA would make 2 halves mandatory like TGCCA.

I like for the bird to fill the box, keep it just under 5lbs and you'll be spot on. I don't know what a 3lb chicken would look like once cut in 1/2.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the confirmations everyone. I think I'll stick with Pilgrim's and Sanderson.
