View Full Version : my UDS by revised firebox, and 1" lining by ceramic mud

I added 1" lining inside by ceramic mud.
I left it un-shelt under sunshine, the mud shrinked and had cracks.
I re-applied mud on the cracks a few times.
Looks not good, but it works!

I cut the leg of mutton in size of 0.5" to 1" wide. Brined in water with salt and onion for 2 hours.

I light the UDS and keep it at 200C or 392F for half hour first.
I insert the mutton on meat hooks and put hooks inside the UDS for 10 minutes.
Then I applied cumin on mutton and put back hooks for another 5 munutes.

The samll blocks(0.5") are WELL DONE. and the bigger sizes (1") are juicy.
We chinese always prefer well done.

The major issue I see with this product is price point. For $350 you can buy the well established Weber Smokey Mountain cooker:

18 inch for $299

22.5 inch for $399

The consumer will know they can return it to a store for a refund if they dont like it, also they have Weber's excellent warranty program. The final thing is that the Weber looks very attractive, your product looks like a big cooking pot with mud lining the inside.

I hope you take my opinions as it was intended, constructive criticism.

My UDS is just to test my design of firebox.
It is far from a commercial model.
Considering shipping cost, I can never sell an UDS directly from China

Weber is made in China. I met its OEM manufacturer on a outdoor fair in March.
If I can find a partner in North American, we can make MY UDS even from the same manufacturer. My purpose is to find a PARTNER first
