Hello everyone. I live in Alaska and I've been skimming the site for about a month now as I build my first UDS (just finished burning a couple pallets yesterday, plan on smoking later today after a nice PAM wash). I figured I should get a membership and get access to the large treasure trove of recipes. So far I've done a pretty good job with my pulled pork and homemade BBQ sauce(due to the nature of my job, I'm an internationally know BBQer, though still an amateur to you guys). I look forward to all the assistance.

I should also mention I'm in the Air Force, stationed in Fairbanks and I cook on a garbage picked propane grill and I have an electric smoker along with my UDS. My biggest challenge is smoking chicken. The meat tastes good, but the skin is rubbery.

Unexpected and nice surprise to see some 49ers on here! Thank's for your service Tauntaun. We lived in Fairbanks for 3 years when my wife was at Ft Wainwright.

I know! I still consider myself one though temporarily displaced!

Welcome again Tauntaun! So if you are stationed in Fairbanks and took a short tour on Clear, would you also be 3P0X1? BTW-I heard one of my former sergeants made the news in your neck of the woods recently. Actually, maybe two or three of them...

I'm actually stationed at Eielson and it was more of a field trip than a tour. I'm a 3d1x3, sorry for the confusion. I haven't heard anything in the news recently, but I haven't really been paying attention either. I'm originally from Michigan, but I like it here so much(and have endured 2 winters) that I consider myself an Alaskan.

And thanks everyone for the support, it's nice knowing your country has your back.
