They are one of if not the best built cooker on the market now. The guy who's now making them is a multi million $ manufacturer, an engineer, and a perfectionist and it shows. I've cooked on them a number of times and now that they are fully insulated they are very efficient with very even temps across all the grates. We did a hog on the 72" at the last class and I was really impressed with how the unit functioned.

In the interest of clarity:

Myron Mixon Smokers and Jack's Old South Smokers are different products manufactured by separate builders. Given the context of the thread I'm assuming you are actually referring to the Myron Mixon Smoker line, not the JOS line.

There are no more new Jack's Old South Cookers - that line has been retired.

The new line as Slam Dunk explained, are being built in a world class facility, they are well built and can be customized to your spec . Worth a look for sure.

Well... not exactly.

Myron Mixon is no longer selling them, but they are still being made.

..and for NEBS teams, the new line is made in Waterford, CT. I like my Klose offset, but cost me $1700 in shipping from Texas. Now to convince my wife the one thing we still need is a whole hog cooker...

The Myron Mixon Smokers certainly raise the standard for the Super Premium Ultra-Bling pit. I bet a lot of folks who used to dream of a Jambo are now conflicted! B)

MMS has more capacity, but the Jambo has that hot rod appeal. Guess it comes down to the style of cooking you like to do.

Maybe I can be of some help here... JOS was basically a Maxey (sp?) smoker with JOS on it. Maxey is still making smokers that are basically an old JOS. Myron's new smoker is the same concept but WAY more customized. Still double insulated water smoker.

I love mine it's just so big I don't use it much. I wanna sell mine and buy a smaller version of the new MMS.

He built them for myron for a long time. His price is about 1500$ less. But the same smoker as the new jos.

I have a 48" JOS I bought last January at Myron's class, and it was made by Maxie. It is not totally insulated but we keep great heat and even here in Wisconsin when colder we use a welding blanket. Rookies last year in KCBS we did well for first year. Want to sell or put on deck at home and plan on ordering fully insulated (sick of hauling firewood) from Scott at Southern Q soon. Cheaper than MMS and he will customize options. Don't care about the bling, just the operation. Will save the bling for my car, pickup etc. The smoker does just that ........... smoke! Basic black with black interior and black trim.

SouthernQ makes excellent cookers (I own one of their gravity feeders myself). I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase!
